Wine Advocate 88-90 / 100 byNeal Martinthe4/29/2008 Made from 100% Merlot since all the Cabernet Franc went into the Grand Vin. A deep garnet core with pink rim. The nose displays good fruit intensity, quite floral with touches of maraschino cherry and Doris plum. A soft entry on the palate with succulent tannins, no sign of any greenness and a very supple, ripe blackberry and strawberry finish marked by silky tannins. Very fine. Tasted April 2008.
Jancis Robinson 16.50 / 20 byJancis Robinsonthe4/14/2008 This is the very jolly second wine of Ch l’Évangile made of 100% Merlot because all the Cabernet Franc went into the grand vin. Very deep crimson. Rather soapy, but not unattractively soapy, nose. Mouthfilling, very charming; you could drink this today! This is 70% of the crop. Very nice, fruity wine for very early drinking. Not skinny at all. Really spreads across the palate. Definite acidity but not jaggedly so. Very attractive, relatively simple wine. Please note the drinking dates as an indication of the modest aspirations of this wine.
Decanter Magazine 14.50 / 20 the4/4/2008 Supple, round and fruity. A little one dimensional but will give pleasure early on. Drink 2010-2016.
