Bellevue - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2022

Bellevue a historic and exclusive vineyard

Château Bellevue, a Grand Cru Classé located in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, is owned by the Pradel de Lavaux and De Boüard de Laforest families. The Angélus team has been carefully watching over its vineyard and cellars since 2007. En 2022, la famille Pradel took over the management of the estate and opened a new chapter in its history

Covering a single block of 6.82 hectares (16.85 acres), Château Bellevue’s vineyard is made up solely of the Merlot grape variety. Situated on one of the finest terroirs of Saint-Emilion, and having some of the great Premiers Grands Crus Classés as its close neighbours, the vineyard stretches out seamlessly over both slopes and plateau. Château Bellevue enjoys stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

The estate’s 2.5 hectares (6.18 acres) of grounds, which feature both Mediterranean and Atlantic plant life, offer an oasis of unique biodiversity set in the very heart of the vineyard. A stroll through this magical place allows visitors to discover a delightful 17th century chartreuse with balustrade-line terraces and a rich heritage depicting the history of Saint-Emilion’s vines and wine.


Tasting notes

Deep nose which suggests stone fruits aromas with slight toasted notes. Velvety attack followed by a generous mouth with a juicy character. Then, thanks to outstanding defined tannins, the mouth reveals a tapered structure. Notes of wild strawberries and blueberries go with the tasting of this wine which has taken on the best aspects of the vintage 2022 so as to highlight its natural freshness.

Entirely crafted from Merlot planted on clay-limestone slopes, the 2022 Bellevue reveals a deep, complex bouquet of cassis, blackberries, flowers and spices. Medium to full-bodied, enrobing and seamless, it's layered and concentrated and framed by a fleshy core of fruit and an energetic, fresh mid-palate, concluding with a long, perfumed and lively finish. Matured for 16 months in equal parts new and one-year-old barrels, this is an attractive, well-crafted wine.

Ripe red and black fruits, smoked tobacco, spice, and chalky minerality all emerge from the 2022 Château Bellevue, a beautifully layered, medium to full-bodied, elegant Saint-Emilion. This comes from a beautiful terroir situated between Angelus and Beauséjour Duffau and is based on 100% Merlot aged 16 months in 50% new oak. Give bottles 4-5 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

Merlot Les terroirs calcaires ont été très bénéfiques pour Bellevue 2022 qui révèle ainsi de la fraîcheur, ce qu'il doit également aux grappes entières utilisées durant les vinifications. Invitantes nuances de myrtilles et de cerises complétées par une touche de garrigues et de menthe poivrée dans le bouquet de Bellevue 2022. Le vin se distingue par son ampleur et sa puissance. Il est linéaire, précis et énergétique ! Ses tannins, aux grains fins, sont suaves, vigoureux et en phase avec une tension structurante et incisive. Quand un vin parvient à briller sur plusieurs tableaux, en créant le lien entre vigueur, finesse, gourmandise et fraîcheur, il est invariablement grand. Il mérite un peu de garde, mais ne perdons pas de vue qu'un grand vin est toujours bon. Aujourd'hui, demain et après-demain. 2027-2050 96/100

Refined and broad on the palate, this medium- to full-bodied red offers layers of ripe dark fruit and hints of cedar, walnuts, smoke, licorice and stones. It’s wide and complex but not heavy, with polished, almost silky tannins and some mineral complexity in its long, even aftertaste. Try from 2029.

Smells lovely, rich and ripe, dark fruits. Supple, lively and bright red berry fruit with quite grippy tannins on the palate, but balanced with an enjoyable texture that's not too dry, austere or raw. Compact and tight, but feels well worked, lovely detail and bite to the fruit with appealing minty freshness and long length. This has great promise. Harvest 5 September. Ageing 14 months. Derenoncourt consultants.

De caractère invitant, le bouquet de Bellevue révèle des notes de fruits noirs mûres ainsi qu'une touche minérale. Le vin a du corps et est doté de tannins crémeux. Il se distingue par son harmonie en créant le lien entre des tannins aux grains fins, la puissance et une touche suave. Une très belle réussite que l'on pourra apprécier jeune, sans oublier de laisser quelques bouteilles de côté, car Bellevue 2022 dispose d'un excellent potentiel de garde !

The 2022 Château Bellevue is up there with the finest wines to date from this Château. All Merlot from clay and limestone soils, it has beautiful cherry, candied violet, and chalky minerality in its medium to full-bodied, concentrated, balanced profile. I like its tannins, it has plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish.

Silky, vibrant, elegant, fresh, supple, and refined, the wine is layered with ripe, sweet, vibrant, red and black pit fruits. The concentrated finish, with its velvety-textures and layers of fruits hits all the right notes. Drink from 2026-2045.

Attractive purple fruit here with lavender, nut shell and stones. Medium- to full-bodied. Firm and broad tannin structure with a lingering chalky finish. Lots of juicy fruit.
