Bellefont Belcier - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2021

World of Vignobles K

The Vignobles K Group, a family company, was created in 2014, regrouping 7 wine properties, situated on the best terroirs on 4 prestigious appellations of Bordeaux, included Château Bellefont-Belcier (Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé), Château Haut-Brisson (Saint Emilion Grand Cru), Château Tour Saint Christophe (Saint Emilion Grand Cru), Château La Patache (Pomerol), Enclos Tourmaline (Pomerol). Peter Kwok, the group's owner, is a Bordeaux wine lover and a French culture lover.

Le Château Bellefont-Belcier

Created in the late 18th century, the Bellefont-Belcier estate is wonderfully situated on Saint-Emilion’s south-facing slopes, neighbouring Château Pavie, Château Larcis-Ducasse and Château Tertre Roteboeuf. Ideally located on the south slopes of f Saint-Laurent-des-Combes in the area of the appellation Saint-Émilion Grand Cru, the vineyard extends over 13.5 hectares in one piece. It is divided into three distinct areas: the limestone plateau, the South slope clay-limestone, the clayey-sandy parcels.

The weather conditions

This vintage has a special resonance for Château Bellefont-Belcier which is now officially committed to organic farming.

The severe frosts of April spared the vineyard. From May onwards, the weather conditions complicated the work of the
vinegrowers, but the vigilance, rigour and unfailing investment of the teams enabled to curb the significant pressure of mildew and to provide the best care for the vines until the end of the summer.
From mid-September onwards, the weather conditions became ideal. Beautiful days with large temperature variations favoured phenolic ripening and preserved the aromas.

The winemaking process is little interventionist in order to preserve the subtlety of the aromas, the silkiness of the tannins, which are characteristic of this vintage, and the typicity of the terroirs. Fermentations are carried out without addition of
sulfur, only a minimum dose will be added at the end of ageing.

I loved the 2021 Château Bellefont-Belcier and it's certainly well worth seeking out. Based on 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that hit 13.75% alcohol and is still resting in just 30% new barrels, it shines for its purity and elegance, with vivid blue fruits, cassis, chalky mineral, and white flower-like aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied on the palate, it shows the vintage's elegant, seamless style, is perfectly balanced, and has outstanding length. If it puts on weight over the course of its élevage, it will check in near the top of the barrel range. Tasted numerous times.

The 2021 Bellefont Belcier is a sensual, beguiling Saint-Émilion built on expressive aromatics and nuance more than power. Sweet tobacco, spice, leather, crushed flowers, rose petal, mint and blood orange are all beautifully lifted. Polished, silky tannins wrap it all together. This is beautifully done. Even so, my impression is of a wine that is in transition, rather than a wine with a fully defined style. The open bouquet leads me to believe the 2021 may be more of a medium-term proposition. Tasted three times.

The 2021 Bellefont Belcier opens in the glass with aromas of dark cherries, berries, violets and licorice framed by a discreet touch of new oak. Medium to full-bodied, ample and seamless, it's layered and enveloping, with good depth at the core and impressive mid-palate plenitude, concluding with an expansive finish.

Racy strawberries and red plums with a subtle sweet-sour accent. Fresh herbs, stones and grapefruit as well. Medium body on the palate with a linear set of fruit rounded by chalky tannins. Juicy and vibrant finish. Already delicious.

A confident and silky Bellefont-Belcier with a lovely floral bouquet, this is a fantastic wine and one with silky fruit, excellent complexity, a slender mid-palate and a long, well-organised finish. The tannins are bright and refreshing, and the overall impression is of a magical creation that is not too rushed or trying too hard, and it is all the better for this relaxed state of mind and admirable self-control. I tasted several wines twice and a number of them three times, and when I encountered this wine at the Château, it was even finer and more transcendentally appealing than I had seen previously. 18

A racy and refined Bellefont with stone, chalk and salty character. Wet earth and green olives, too. Medium to full body with a core of pretty fruit and solid tannins that are fine and polished.

Complexe, dense, racé, le vin développe subtilement un corps longiligne et crémeux, au grain de tannin serré et soyeux, de grande fraîcheur. Bien construit et équilibré.

Juicy palate, smooth body, velvety tannins, and fresh acidity. With all these beautiful characters, it in no way resemble in 2021. I am amazed to know that 2021 is the first vintage of organic conversion. Despite all the difficulties of this year, they produce a wine with vibrant and pure fragrances. This is not only the blessing of God but also the gift of the whole team’s diligence and intelligence. (This year, K Vignboles has employed six more full-time growers for organic farming.). What it presents in 2021 is the Bellefont-Belcier style of elegance adopted since 2018, and it touches me once again. ?????,?????,?????,?????,???????????????2021?????????2021????????“????”????????,?????????????????????????,?????????,?????????????????(K Vignboles??????6????????????)2021?????,?2018????????“Bellefont-Belcier????”,?????????

Flowers, mint, spice and red pit fruits are already on display in the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, juicy, vibrant and crisp, with freshness and energy to the red berries on the mid-palate and in the mineral-touched, refreshing finish. The wine was made from blending 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13.75% ABV. Drink from 2024-2038. 92-94

The 2021 Bellefont-Belcier has a ripe red cherry, cassis and licorice-tinged bouquet, perhaps less opulent than recent vintages, though I am still looking for a little more delineation and complexity given the site. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a light touch of chocolate and mint and plenty of red fruit on the finish. Give this 2–4 years in bottle.

The 2021 Bellefont-Belcier is done in a much more elegant style than in the past. That is a combination of the vintage and a new direction for the château. There's terrific freshness to be found in the red-fleshed fruit, but also less heft than in the past. I am not sure the true potential of this site is still fully known, but the ride to discovering it is going to be fascinating.

(70& Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13.75% Alkohol, pH 3.54) Dichtes Rubinrot.

Spared by the April frosts, the 2021 Bellefont Belcier has turned out brilliantly, exhibiting aromas of sweet berries and cherries mingled with hints of orange zest and violets, framed by a deft touch of oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, it's deep and elegant, with refined tannins, fine concentration and a penetrating finish. Impressively, this 2021 appears to surpass the estate's 2018 in quality!
