Beauregard (BIO-ORGANIC) - Pomerol 2021

Château Beauregard, the pleasure from eyes to palate

Owned by the Moulins and Cathiard families since 2014, Château Beauregard is being reborn around its primary function: to produce a great Pomerol wine in the heart of a historic place dedicated to the residence of its guests. The property has built its reputation for several decades, not only on the majesty of the place, but also thanks to remarkably fresh and elegant wines.

Historically, it was one of the first estates in the region to expand its vineyards in the 18th century, and has enjoyed an exceptional terroir ever since. Its location on the southeastern edge of the famous Pomerol plateau allows the estate to exploit fascinating and valuable land for the cultivation of vines. Its vineyard covers 17.5 hectares - making it one of the largest in the Pomerol appellation - and is composed of more than 35 plots.

Driven by the desire to develop this estate with great humility and rigor, the teams decided to implement organic farming in 2009. This philosophy, both engaging and demanding, is bearing fruit today. The wines have gained in purity, freshness and ageing capacity.

The 2021 vintage, freshness, complexity and elegance

Vincent Priou tells you about this vintage: https://bit.ly/Beauregard2021

« This 2020 vintage is a magnificent survivor of a totally abnormal climate: a very wet spring and an extremely dry summer. In the end, the wine is dense, complex and very fresh; all qualities of an exceptional vintage.»

A plump, medium-bodied, pleasure-bent effort with lots to like, the 2021 Château Beauregard gives up plenty of red and darker, almost black fruits as well as chocolate, spice, and a touch of tobacco. It's not the biggest or richest Pomerol out there, but it has terrific purity, ripe tannins, and is going to put a smile on your face on release.

The 2021 Beauregard is a tasty, expressive Pomerol to drink now and over the medium term. A healthy dollop of Cabernet Franc in the blend adds aromatic presence. Dried herbs, incense, tobacco, menthol, licorice and sage are some of the notes that open with coaxing. I would give this a few years in bottle to come together. There's a lot of wine here.

Opening in the glass with aromas of dark berries, pencil shavings and new oak, the 2021 Beauregard is medium to full-bodied, broad and layered, with a moderately concentrated core of fruit framed by plenty of powdery tannin that asserts itself on the youthfully firm finish. 90+

Concentrated and expressive fruit notes of brambles and dark cherries followed by black ink, peppery greens, anise, and dark chocolate. Full-bodied, firm tannins with crisp acidity. Broad and encompassing mid-palate with a layered finish. Nice depth and density to it. 70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc. From organically grown grapes. Try after 2027.

Ripe and fleshy, with an almost succulent edge to the plum and cherry compote flavors, while red licorice and sweet toast frame the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2034. 2,000 cases made.  –JM

This is a fresh, clean, red-fruited Beauregard with a forward stance on the palate and discreet oak spice. The finish is neat and tidy, and the fruit throughout is nicely balanced, but, in the greater scheme of things, this is a space-filler for Beauregard waiting for a more profound vintage to come along. 17

Grand raffinement de texture, superbe entrée en bouche, suave et satinée se développant sur un toucher caressant, fin et soyeux avec des notes de violette et de fruits noirs frais. Tannins savoureux et persistants, très belle réussite.

Beauregard 2021 showcases more reserved floral and fruity aromas, just like a flower bud waiting to bloom, instead of the fabulous “flower fairy” in last year. With that said, its attack on the palate is amazing, with a soft and mellow mouthfeel and silky tannins behind, like having a piece of jelly-stewed-milk beancurd. I particularly expect to see its performance after aging. Beauregard 2021???????????,??????????,????????????“???”?????????????????,???????????????????,??????????????????????????

Licorice, flowers, spice and plums already show in the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, soft, forward, fresh and already charming, with its core of chocolate covered black raspberries and spice. The wine blends 75% Merlot with 25% Cabernet Franc, 13% ABV. Drink from 2023-2039. 90-92

The 2021 Beauregard was picked between September 29 and October 11 at 26hL/ha. It has a well-defined bouquet of pretty red cherries and crushed strawberry fruit, cedar and rose petal emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, well-integrated oak and a light, slightly peppery finish thanks to the 30% Cabernet Franc. All it lacks is a bit of sustain on the aftertaste. Très Pomerol. 13% alcohol

The 2021 Beauregard is bold, racy juicy super-expressive in this tasting, with terrific fruit presence and fine balance. All the elements come together nicely in a supple Pomerol that is all charm. Succulent red cherry, plum, mocha, spice and licorice are front and center. This is a strong showing. Tasted two times.

A wine that improved notably over the three weeks I spent in Bordeaux, the 2021 Beauregard offers up aromas of cherries, sweet berries, pipe tobacco, loamy soil and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and seamless, it's generous and textural, with a layered core of fruit, ripe tannins and a long, penetrating finish. It's a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc this year.

Perfumed and black fruits on the nose. This has a nice suppleness on the palate, gently textured tannins that are softly chewy with a liquorice and slate element to them making them savoury and mineral and also a little robust but supporting the black fruits. This is layered and ample with a beautiful precision to the fruit and well-worked tannins that give the frame. I also love the bitter black chocolate edges that sustain the long finish.
