Baron de Brane - Margaux 2014

Brane Cantenac, an emblem of excellence

Founded in the 18th century under the name of Gorce, this property located on the best gravelly hillside of Cantenac was already considered as one of the best Second Growths of the Médoc before the 1855 classification.

Baron de Brane, the name of the second wine, pays hommage to the famous Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane, the ’Napoléon des Vignes’, owner of the property in the 19th Century.

Since his arrival, in 1992, Henri has endeavored to give each vintage of this great Margaux the brilliance and complexity that its exceptional terroir gives it, always seeking a balance between the intrinsic quality of the vintage and the elegance of the wine.

Quite oaky, but this has a lot of tannic power, berry fruits and freshness that will carry this far into the future. Turns fruity and polished. Second wine of Brane-Cantenac. Drink in 2020.

The 2014 Baron de Brane is a pleasant, fruity second wine to drink now and over the next few years, while the flavors retain a measure of brightness. I would not wait too long.

Fruits rouges, bouche souple, douce, tanins souples en attaque, un peu plus resserrés en finale.

The Baron de Brane 2014 is a blend of 65.4% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and a pinch of Carmenère. It has a light, slightly dusty and tertiary bouquet that is defined, and, like the Grand Vin, perhaps a little old fashioned in style. There is nothing wrong with that. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, light tobacco-infused red berry fruit with an austere finish. Drink over the next 4 to 5 years.

A red with pleasant berry and earth character. Medium body, medium tannins and a fresh finish.
