Tasted at Bordeaux Index annual 10-year on tasting from an ex-château bottle. The d'Armailhac 2004 has a ripe but slightly smudged bouquet with hints of wild mint and sous-bois developing with time. One bottle appeared a little taciturn, but the other ex-château is generous. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant saline tang on the entry. It needs to show more cohesion compared to its peers and the finish is a little hard at the moment, but there is very good depth and structure that renders it more like Clerc-Milon. Fine. The Château d’Armailhac is lacking a little freshness on the nose with scents of blackberry leaf, cranberry and smoke. The palate has a sweet entry, ripe and chewy tannins, the Merlot pronounced leading to a sappy mouth-feel. There are notes of slightly bitter black fruits, a touch of black plum and blueberry towards the finish. Attractive, but lacks a little sophistication. Drink 2010-2018. Tasted November 2008.

A dark ruby color is accompanied by crisp acids, sweet cranberry, black cherry, and darker fruit aromas, and a clean, pure, classically built, medium weight Pauillac. Still firm and tannic, this medium-bodied, elegantly wrought wine will benefit from another 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep for 12-15 years.

Deep red. Expressive aromas of plum, cherry, chocolate, leather and rose petal, plus a whiff of tobacco. Juicy, fresh and precise; not fat but youthful and juicy, with good ripe acidity and flavor intensity for the year. Finishes with broad, dusty tannins and very good length. Still, I'd give this a couple years for its tannins and acids to fully harmonize.

Wonderful aromas of raspberry and currant. Full-bodied, with refined, silky tannins and a long aftertaste. Beautiful and tender. Best after 2009. 15,000 cases made.

Medium ruby. Aromas of cassis, licorice and herbs. Supple and sweet, but with fairly pronounced acidity and cooler notes of mint and herbs. Finishes with good length, but here the slightly tough tannins are less well buffered by sweet fruit than in the 2005, and there's a bit of finishing greenness, giving the wine an austere impression.

Made in a leaner, more austere style than usual (one of the characteristics of this vintage), the 2004 is elegant with fine tannin, sweet raspberry and black cherry fruit as well as hints of herbs and new oak. It possesses that crunchy, juicy fruit character that the French call croquante. This wine should drink well for 10-15 years.

Sattes, extrem dichtes Purpur mit schwarzen Reflexen. Tiefgründiges Nasenbild, Lakritze, schwarze Schokonoten, Grahambrot, dunkle Pralinen, zwar verschlossen, kann sich aber trotzdem schon schön offenbaren. Im Gaumen feste Statur aufweisend, deutlicher Cabernet-Touch, eine gewisse Napa-Affinität, im Innern noch eine feine Tanninbitterkeit im Extrakt zeigend, schwarzbeeriges Finale, noch gut 6 Jahre Flaschenreife brauchend, dann ein richtig schöner Pauillac-Klassiker mit recht viel Finessen.

58% cabernet-sauvignon, 14 % cabernet franc, 25% merlot, 3% petit verdot. La robe très dense affiche une teinte presque noire. Après un nez peu expressif, la bouche offre une attaque dense, une belle matière, sur des tanins fins, avec un joli milieu de bouche, de bonne maturité, avec une superbe finale de mûre.
