Since Vincent’s team took over Château Vray Croix de Gay, the wine has revealed a more delicate, softer side. The once deep structure and body have become more youthful and graceful, and the formerly bold tannins have transformed into a softer texture. However, this doesn’t mean it has lost its original energy. With a gentle swirl, the aromas of violet, rhubarb jam, and clove blossom layer upon one another, embodying both elegance and softness. This wine undoubtedly marks a new chapter for Château Vray Croix de Gay, with much to look forward to.

Good quality, supple tannins, easy to approach with the telltale silkiness of Pomerol tannins and plenty of ripe berry fruits, easy to recommend. 28hl/h yields, harvest September 5 to 22, with a big gap in between Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Vincent Dupuch director overseeing this as well as their Left Bank estates. New cellar will open in 2026, now that the vinification has been brought into Pomerol, from Siaurac where it was produced previously. 30% new oak, with a few amphoras,

The pretty 2022 Vray Croix de Gay, currently made at Siaurac until their newly built winery is ready (by June 2025), offers a perfumed bouquet with pure blackcurrant, wild strawberry and iris flower scents. The medium-bodied palate features pliant tannins and a silky texture, lacking in structure but long and languid in feel. This Pomerol will be one of the earlier-drinking 2022s, yet it has the balance and harmony to suggest it will evolve well in the bottle.

The 2022 Vray Croix de Gay is soft, open-knit and gracious. I found it much more expressive _en primeur_. Ripe dark cherry, mocha, spice, new leather and floral overtones build nicely. It will be interesting if the 2022 shows more of that stylish charm and depth I saw in the barrel samples with more time in bottle.

Quite herbal and darkly savoury on the nose, dark chocolate and liquorice elements with bramble fruit - this smells serious and concentrated, sticky sweet with hints of dates. Juicy and friendly on the palate initially - the Merlot has a certain plushness in the mouth with the tannins giving a small bounce and cushioning to the palate with some hints of sweet strawberry jam giving the playful appeal. Then the serious concentrated side kicks in with liquorice, wet stone and clove that edges the frame and gives the spiced definition and freshness from the mid palate onwards. Still a hefty, broad wine, just narrowed into a sleek line right now. The wine was presented within the Calon-Segur stable with Vincent Maillet overseeing production. 3.85pH. A yield of 28hl/ha. Ageing 18 months, 30% new oak. Eric Boissenot consultant. Harvest 5 September - 22 September. Tasted twice. HVE certified.

The 2022 Vray Croix de Gay, aged for 18 months in 30% new oak, contains 10% Cabernet Franc this year with 14.5% alcohol. For the first time, the Calon-Ségur oversaw the vinification here. Now, this has a refined bouquet, less rustic perhaps than previous vintages, quite pure, dark berry fruit, a pleasing mineralité that percolate through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, very harmonious. Where this really strides ahead of previous vintages is the mid-palate weight and the elegance that floods through on the finish. Joyous Pomerol. The best Vray Croix de Gay to date.

Medium deep crimson. Musky plum, wax varnish aromas with camomile/ aniseed notes. Generous and supple with smoky/ musky dark plum, Parma violet flavours, fine slinky textires and noticeable marzipan/ roasted chestnut oak notes. (Merlot, Cabernet Franc) 14.5% alc. 94-95+

Intense blackberry, kirsch, cherries dipped in black chooclate, liqourice. High alchols give a flash of heat while emphasising supple tannins, drama and Pomerol signature. The 2022 Vray Croix de Gay, 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-purple in color. It bursts with bold notions of blackberry preserves, prunes, and boysenberries, giving way to notions of crushed rocks, tar, and Sichuan pepper. The full-bodied palate is jam packed with black fruit preserves flavors, accented by earthy undertones and framed with ripe, rounded tannins, finishing with a spicy lift. pH 3.85.

The 2022 Vray Croix de Gay is wonderfully elegant and sophisticated from the first taste. Aromatically expressive and nuanced, the 2022 is all class. Red berry fruit, mocha, spice, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco lend nuance throughout. Readers will find a Pomerol that is much more about finesse and persistence than size. Citrus-infused acids and a touch of spice lift the finish. Drinking window : 2028-2052

Deeply colored, the wine opens with flowers, black raspberries, herbs, cocoa, and plums in the nose. The palate is fresh, vibrant, and most importantly, silky, with its layers of sweet, ripe, soft, cherries, plums, and wet earth. There is a nice touch of powdered cocoa that comes in on the end-note. The wine blends 90% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc, 14.5% ABV. This is the first vintage produced entirely by the team that also own Calon Segur. Drink from 2025-2042.

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Vray Croix de Gay is the first vintage produced from start to finish by Vincent Millet and his team from Calon Ségur. Exhibiting aromas of sweet berries, orange zest, violets and rose petals, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and velvety, with lively acids and a saline finish. It's derived from a parcel opposite Le Gay and Trotonoy.
