The 2018 Le Vray Croix de Gay has one of the vintage’s more opulent bouquets, featuring luscious red cherries, wild strawberry and black truffle, plus licorice and hints of cassis blossoming with aeration. The palate is well balanced with succulent ripe tannins, gentle grip and fine acidity. Almost pastille-like toward the finish, which, as I suggested from barrel, does not quite deliver the complexity that the aromatics deserve. Still, it should give 15–20 years of drinking pleasure.

Aromas of blueberry, black cherry, clove, dark chocolate and sandalwood. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Smooth and velvety with hot stones on the finish. Firm and polished at the end. From organically grown grapes. Try from 2025.

The 2018 Le Vray Croix de Gay has a sensual bouquet with red cherry, strawberry, warm bricks and light truffle tones, very detailed and nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe with a fine bead of acidity. It just misses a little complexity and matière towards the finish, but otherwise this is a fine Pomerol that will give 20 years of drinking pleasure.

The 2018 Vray Croix de Gay is sensual, open-knit and inviting. Rose petal, mint, lavender and spice add striking aromatic presence to a refined, sensual Pomerol that hits all the right notes. Beautifully persistent and layered, Vray Croix de Gay is absolutely gorgeous. This is an especially nuanced, understated style.

This is great and exciting, no question – it’s juicy, firm fruited, well controlled and on the more precise side of the vintage, exactly as was true with 2016. It feels like they have picked the fruits and split them slowly, cleanly, one-by-one. There is flesh here but it’s spliced, pinned, like a Deyrolle specimen, making the clay soils here come alive with a minerality that is normally reserved for limestone. Truffle, cocoa, cherry and juicy plums start the show. Soft and silky with a nice polish to the tannins and freshness to the fruit, the wine finishes with chocolate covered cherries and earthy, dark pit fruits.
