This is great and exciting, no question – it’s juicy, firm fruited, well controlled and on the more precise side of the vintage, exactly as was true with 2016. It feels like they have picked the fruits and split them slowly, cleanly, one-by-one. There is flesh here but it’s spliced, pinned, like a Deyrolle specimen, making the clay soils here come alive with a minerality that is normally reserved for limestone.
