The 2011 Cote Rotie La Turque reminds me of the exceptional 1991 vintage of Cote Rotie. Initially underrated, those wines put on weight as they matured and it eventually became clear that the 1991s were better than the riper, richer 1990s. The 2011 La Turque, while not as powerful and structured as the 2010, nor as extravagantly rich and opulent as the 2009, exhibits an evolved, endearing charm. It possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as notes of graphite, new saddle leather, ground pepper, truffles, roasted meats, charcuterie and abundant black and blue fruits. Medium to full-bodied and opulent, it will be drinkable at an earlier age than either the 2010 or 2009.
