Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. The Trottevieille ‘09 has a more reserved nose, backward with elements of the Left Bank: graphite and cedar notes. Chewy on the entry, good structure and perhaps not quite as complex as I was anticipating on the nose. There is a pleasant white pepper note on the finish and it retains admirable focus. Hopefully it will obtain more complexity with bottle age. Tasted January 2013. (90+ points)

This wine has closed down considerably, but has a lot of potential for long-term aging. Yields were ridiculously low (8 hectoliters per hectare) because a hailstorm on May 13 wiped out much of the vineyard. The final blend of 67% Cabernet Franc, 31% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon displays a dense ruby/purple color and loads of chocolate, crushed rocks, truffles and earth as well as subtle vanillin. Some black currants also make an appearance in this deep, chewy, structured, backward wine. This is a true vin de garde that needs at least 8-10 years of cellaring ans should drink well over the following 20+ years.(90+ points)

Aromas of blueberries, with fresh flowers and sandalwood. Full body, with lots of wonderful ripe fruit and silky tannins. It goes on for a long time at the finish. Best ever from here. Try in 2018.

(67% cabernet franc, 31% merlot and 2% cabernet sauvignon) Ruby-red. Perfumed aromas of chocolate-covered cherry, violet, cedar and graphite. Rich and full-bodied, with somewhat chunky, powerful red fruit flavors complicated by chocolate syrup and a light peppery quality. The firmly tannic, long finish could use a little more finesse. Interestingly, even though the merlot was picked quite late (October 10), this wine does not show aromas of surmaturite

Robe sombre. Nez un peu réduit. En bouche, attaque souple, matière suave, demi-corps, belle matière, petite sécheresse. 7 000 à 8 000 b. seulement en raison d’une grêle en mai. 67 % cabernet-franc, 31 % merlot, 2 % cabernet-sauvignon.

Anstatt der angepeilten 50 000 Flaschen werden es nach dem Hagel nur etwa 8 000. 67 % Cabernet Franc, 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 % Merlot. Tiefes Purpur. Sehr würziges, deutlich von Cabernet geprägtes Bouquet, Black Currant, Brazil-Tabak, Rauch. Am Gaumen sehr fleischig, dicht, mit feinen Muskeln, endet mit Heidelbeeren und schwarzen Pfefferkörnern. Ein spezieller Wein, der irgendwie nach Pauillac schmeckt, was am hohen Cabernet-Anteil liegen könnte. 2018-2034

Fruits noirs, épices douces, bouche douce, vive, épicée, bonne acidité, frais, tendu beaucoup de relief, finale sur des tanins éveillés qui prolonge la bouche, frais, élégant, très vin de calcaire. O=2017 G=20 ans

Durement touché par l’orage de grêle du printemps, Trottevieille a produit dans des quantités nécessairement limitées un beau vin, svelte, long, raffiné et fin.

Probably the best St.-Emilion proprietor Philippe Casteja has ever made, this property was very badly hail-damaged, thus the yields were tiny. There is a lot of structure to this wine, but behind it is massive fruit and loads of truffle, white chocolate, earth, and barrique. Full-bodied and opaque purple in color, it is a wine requiring some patience, but if the tannins melt further, look for an even higher rating. This wine will need to be forgotten for at least five years and drunk over the following 30+. Too bad there isn’t much of it in 2009. (Tasted two times.) Drink 2015-2045. (91-93+*) points

The crammed, opaque ruby-purple hued Trotte is impressive. Its offers fabulous fragrances of scorched earth, eucalyptus/licorice, pain grille, plum and mulberry. There is a beautifully-rich, pure, and finessed, plum flavor intermixed with wet-stone, a medium to full-body, and a delicate precision of flavor. This is wonderful winemaking particularly due to the subtlety of the nuances. It looks to be on track to exceed the excellent 2008. So good! Maturity period 2014-2025+

A solid red with spice, raspberry and coffee bean character on the nose and palate. Full and chewy, but silky and delicious. Much less production because of the hail in May, but they did well.

Thick and sleek. Mild and dry and cocoa-like. Dry on the finish and lots of alcohol. A bit austere on the end. Drink 2016-2026
