A blend of 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande races out of the glass with bright, exuberant scents of Morello cherries, mulberries, warm plums and fresh blackcurrants plus touches of allspice, candied violets and tilled soil. Medium-bodied, the palate is laden with expressive black and red fruits plus loads of floral accents and a wonderfully plush texture, finishing long and fragrant. Drinking Window : 2022 - 2045. 93+

The 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande is soft, easygoing and quite supple - all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking over the next handful of years. This Merlot-based Saint-Estèphe is all about elegance, refinement and class. The 2017 remains quite laid back in style, but it is a very pretty wine with impeccable balance and tons of sheer appeal.

The 2017 Chateau Tronquoy-Lalande comes from the northern part of the Medoc and is made by the team at Chateau Montrose. Based on 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, and the balance Cabernet Franc, it’s a balanced, medium-bodied effort that has classy cherry and currant fruits as well as ample damp earth, spice, and sappy herb nuances. With ripe tannins, good acidity, and the straight, classic style of the vintage, it's going to evolve nicely for 15-20 years or more.

This is a delicious red with ripe plums and chocolate with some hazelnuts and spices. Full-bodied, dense and layered. Shows excellent depth and flavor. Same quality as the excellent 2016. A blend of 55% merlot, 37% cabernet sauvignon, 6% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc. Better after 2021.

The 2017 Château Tronquoy-Lalande checks in as a blend of 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. It’s a medium to full-bodied, elegant wine that has the pure, clean aromas and flavors of the vintage. Sweet black cherries, hints of cassis, and violets all emerge from the glass and it has silky tannin, again, terrific purity, and solid length. It should benefit from just short-term cellaring and drink nicely for 10-15 years.

The 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande is wonderfully polished and nuanced, with silky tannins and mid-weight structure that give the wine a bit more finesse than is often the case. Dark blue stone fruit, violet and soft, spice notes develop in the glass, but it is the wine's overall feel that stands out most. Ripeness was about 0.5% less than the norm, which is one of the reasons the 2017 is so laid back in style. This is very nicely done. The blend is 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc.

Bitter chocolate, thyme and dark, red fruits in the nose bring you to a round, soft, sweet, fruity sensation. The wine is open with bright tannins and a sweetness of fruit in the finish. Produced from a blend of 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, the harvest took place from September 7 to October 3.

The 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande was picked between 12 September and 3 October, when 15 batches were selected for the Grand Vin. It has a ripe and pure bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and light touches of iodine. Perhaps I was expecting a little more terroir to come through, even at this primordial stage. The palate is medium-bodied with firm and quite grippy tannin on the entry. It feels a little hard in the mouth, saline and broody, displaying that Saint-Estèphe leitmotif of earthiness and just needing a little more charm to develop on the finish.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Tronquoy-Lalande (a blend of 55% Merlot, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc has intense, exuberant scents of crushed black currants, Bing cherries and blackberries with touches of tobacco, yeast extract and tilled soil. The palate is medium-bodied, firm and chewy with great freshness and lively fruit, finishing earthy.

A beautiful rich colour, and well-balanced. It fades just a touch on the finish, but there is extremely juicy plum and black cherry fruit along the way. A fresh Tronquoy with high aromatics and firm, bright fruit that's not especially generous. Again, Cabernet Sauvignon suffered less than Merlot from the September rain. Harvested from 12 September to 3 October. No frost impact. Yield 55hl/ha.

A firm and silky red with blackberries, dark chocolate and spices. Crushed stones, too. Full-to medium-bodied, tight and tannic. Lively.

Very bright and sleek in feel, with lilac and rose petal notes ahead of the cassis and bitter cherry fruit. The tannins and acidity are fresh. The finish shows good tension.—J.M.
