A luscious red with redcurrant, chocolate, plum and hazelnut. Rather opulent on the nose. Full-bodied and very structured with chewy tannins that are intense and powerful. This needs time to come together and soften. 68% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot. Better after 2027.

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton De Mouton Rothschild is one heck of a second wine and has a rare level of depth and density. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot, it reveals a dense ruby/purple hue to go with textbook Pauillac notes of cedar pencil, smoke tobacco, spice box, blackcurrants, and graphite. Deep, rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it's probably better than many vintages of the Grand Vin. I absolutely love its purity of fruit, balance, and structure. It needs a healthy decant if drinking any time soon and will benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age, but it will have over two decades of longevity. Just don't tell yourself it's a second wine and you'll think you're drinking the Grand Vin.

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton is notably serious this year, offering up a rich bouquet of minty berries, cherries, licorice and toasty new oak. Medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with a generous core of fruit, youthfully chewy tannins and a long, sapid finish, it will reward a bit of bottle age.

The 2019 Le Petit-Mouton is flat-out gorgeous. The energy, tension and delineation here are all first class. There is no doubt in my mind that in a previous era, this could have been a First Growth wine. Maybe not in a truly great vintage, but certainly in anything less than that. Bright red-toned fruit, rose petal, mint and blood orange all run through the 2019, lending notable depth to play off the wine's freshness. I am every bit as excited about the Petit Mouton as I was en primeur. It is a fabulous wine in every way. Wow!

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton clearly retains its bold bouquet of bravura scents of blackberry, blood orange, and touches of cassis and violet petals, the 50% new oak seamlessly integrated over 18 months. The palate is silky-smooth on the entry, deep and displaying fine grip. This is definitely one of the most seductive Le Petit Mouton releases in recent years. It tightens a little toward the graphite-tinged finish, so afford it more time in bottle than I originally predicted. Superb.

Composed of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot, harvested from the 18th of September to the 5th of October, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2019 Le Petit Mouton charges out of the glass with gregarious scents of baked black cherries, plum preserves and blackcurrant cordial followed by hints of cumin seed, candied violets and licorice with a waft of dried Provence herbs. Medium-bodied, the palate has a real skip in its step, offering fresh, cheery black berry flavors and a grainy texture, supported by oodles of freshness, finishing long with invigorating spice and herbal sparks.

You know what? Mouton Rothschild will get the lion's share of attention in 2019, but I think the Petit-Mouton might be even more impressive! Racy and sexy from the outset, the 2019 is positively stellar. Bright floral accents and a core of sweet red berry fruit flesh out in a mid-weight Petit-Mouton endowed with terrific purity and pedigree. It is a gorgeous wine in every way.

The second wine of the château, the 2019 Le Petit Mouton De Mouton Rothschild checks in as 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot. It's a gem of a second wine and offers a classic Pauillac style as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It tastes far from a second wine, with loads of crème de cassis, shaved cedar pencil, green tobacco, and a touch of minerality. It tastes like a mini-Mouton, and in truth, not too mini.

The 2019 Le Petit Mouton was blended earlier than usual at the end of November and sees 50% new oak. It has a bold nose that wants to make a statement: copious black fruit, raspberry, hints of gingerbread and marmalade in the background, a multi-faceted nose that I have come to expect from this Deuxième Vin in recent years. The palate is just gorgeous: seductive black fruit laced with white pepper, very fine tannins, pitch perfect balance and an exceedingly precise finish that is frankly Grand Vin worthy. Outstanding.

Truffle, flowers, tobacco leaf, spice-box and blackberry aromas permeate the perfume. Round and richly textured, with a beautiful blast of black and red, ripe, sweet fruit and freshness on the palate, everything comes together in the supple textured finish. It is interesting to note that today, the second wine is superior to every vintage of Mouton Rothschild produced in the 70s and most of the 80s! The wine blends 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot. 93-95 Pts

A dense, creamy second wine of Mouton with blueberries and hints of chocolate and black olives. It's full-bodied with round, ripe tannins and lots of pretty fruit. Love the integration of fruit and tannins. Intense and long. 68% cabernet sauvignon and 32% merlot.

A very moreish Petit Mouton with plump fruit and clear coffee and mocha beans - a signature of this wine and people who love its unashamed glamour will adore this vintage. It has welcome astringent tannins on the finish and overall this is delicious. There are not many 2nd wines that can truly stand on their own but this is very much one of them. Harvest September 18 to October 5. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038

Dense, subtle, blackcurrant Cabernet to smell, subtly Médoc gravel-tinged; amply
proportioned, full, generous, concentrated, firmly, but finely tannic; rich and fleshy textured wine, sweetly ripe yet remaining fresh; you sense a touch of super-ripe Merlot character, and this is enveloping, gently warm, long to taste, a showy, fairly powerful, notably plump expression of the cru, with excellent fruit-cored persistence.
