As the delicate aromas of sour cherry and cranberry waft from the glass, I knew that Château Moulin Haut Laroque 2022 had succeeded! Chapeau! The full-bodied wine, akin to whole milk, contains myriad powdery tannins, which balance the wine’s exterior softness with internal strength. The salty finish is very appealing, and it exudes a pure, natural charm. As long as there is no volatile acidity after aging, this wine is sure to become a classic one.

The 2022 Moulin Haut-Laroque has a pretty bouquet with touches of brambly red berry fruit, kirsch and orange peel. The palate is medium-bodied and lightly spiced, with pliant tannins and a hint of mocha on the finish. There is something "carefree" about this Fronsac that I appreciate.

Ripe blackberries, blackcurrants, cloves, licorice and hints of wet earth on the nose lead to a medium- to full-bodied palate that offers creamy, mouth-filling tannins, impressive fruit concentration and a dry, earthy aftertaste. 65% merlot, 20% cabernet franc, 10% cabernet sauvignon and 5% malbec. Try from 2028.

The 2022 Moulin Haut-Laroque has a little jamminess on the nose, although I like the fruit here, blackcurrant and blueberry, a touch of incense. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, smooth in texture with a touch of tobacco on the finish. This is very promising.

Bright and open, quite streamlined with tension in terms of straightness. Tannins are fine and lean, giving a strictness to the palate while the high acidity adds some life to the richly concentrated but cool blackcurrants and cherry fruit. Supple and succulent but also a tad austere and dry towards the finish with the acidity and powdery, liquorice, graphite and cedar sensation taking over. Nice potential. The 2022 Château Moulin Haut-Laroque puts its foot firmly on the ripeness pedal while managing to stay nicely balanced. Black cherries, plums, blueberries, and leafy herbs are just some of its nuances, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a plush, opulent mouthfeel and a great finish. This ripe, sexy, pleasure-bent effort will drink nicely right out of the gate.
