A rather gruff wine with coarse edges and quite raw tannins, but there is fruit here, and it certainly tastes bright enough on the mid-palate. I imagine that there will be few problems ahead as this wine completes its élévage, and it will blossom into a medium-weight, cassis-style charmer. Meyney is starting to impress me, and in 2021 this property took another confident step forward. 16.5

Compared to the other wines of Saint-Estèphe, the key to Meyney 2021’s success lies in its pristine fragrance of violet. Although it is not particularly concentrated, it does exhibit a refreshing juicy taste, with the sweetness of plum candy lingering on the finish. Dark red fruits, tobacco, spearmint, espresso, currants and cranberry on the nose. Forward, bright, medium-bodied, fresh and savory with an herbal, spiced edge on the mid-palate and in the chewy, peppery finish. The wine is produced from a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot. Drink from 2025-2040. 90-92

The 2021 Meyney has a lovely bouquet with floral-tinged red berry fruit, opening nicely with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh red berry fruit laced with oyster shell and spice. Fine build towards a menthol-tinged finish, winemaker Anne La Nour has conjured a very commendable Saint-Estèphe from a tricky growing season. If release prices match your wallet, I'd stick a case (or two) in the cellar.

The 2021 Meyney is a deep, dense, fleshy wine. There is not a ton of complexity today, as the flavors are incredibly primary. Hints of cedar, tobacco and dried herbs start to emerge over time, but only with great reluctance. The 2021 could turn out to be quite good if it comes together a bit more during élevage. Tasted two times.

Gorgeous floral aromatics, this is crisp with the most delicious blackcurrant and black cherry and strawberry fruit flavour - really so well executed. Lively and bright, clean and clear. Succulent and juicy, lovely frame and texture overall. A wonderful easy to drink wine, with elegance refinement but still that concentration that drives the flavours from start to finish. A top buy for classic clart, refreshing, minty, deep, layered and so charming.
