The 2020 Meyney has a crisp, focused and detailed bouquet with precise blackberry, blueberry and cedar scents that are almost Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive concentration on the entry, layers of licorice-tinged black fruit and a peppery finish that wants to make a statement. But it's just a bit squidgy. It will require five or six years in bottle just to shave its edges. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

A strong performance for this improving estate, the 2020 Meyney unwinds in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums, violets, cigar box and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, with a pure and fleshy core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins and lively acids, it has retained energy and balance in this warm vintage.

Solidly built, with lilac, red currant and mulled damson plum notes that mix well, all held by a thin but tensile iron note through the middle, which then extends a mouthwatering feel on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2024 through 2035. 17,688 cases made, 570 cases imported.

The 2020 Château Meyney is a solid step up, with more elegance and finesse, as well as structure. Giving up medium-bodied aromas and flavors of darker currants, black cherries, classy oak, tobacco leaf, and damp earth, it has terrific overall balance, building, fine-grained tannins, and a great finish. It has some accessibility today yet will benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.

Flowers, dark cherries, blackberries, Asian spices and espresso is what you find right off the bat on the nose. Rich, ripe, supple and lush, the wine is polished, fresh and offers layers of fruit-filled pleasure with every sip. Give this a few years of age and it promisses to really hit the spot. Drink from 2025-2045.

Intriguing on the nose showing spiciness in the notes of blackberries, wild myrtle, thyme, marjoram, cumin and sandalwood. Medium bodied, light tannins and a creamy, enveloping finale. Drink now or hold.

The 2020 Meyney turned out beautifully. Fresh, vibrant and full of character, the 2020 impresses with its energy and delineation. Dark cherry, rose petal, blood orange, sage, mint and white pepper all race out of the glass. The 2020 is bold and yet refined. There is certainly plenty to admire.

The 2020 Meyney has a very estuarine infused bouquet insofar that you could imagine looking out over the Gironde Estuary on some overcast winter's day. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well balanced with an elegant bead of acidity. Plenty of freshness and focus towards the finish, this is a splendid Meyney that continues it good run of form.

Dark, lustrous crimson. Really very glamorous indeed. Ripe but fresh nose with an interesting balsam note. Smooth as satin initially on the palate with the savoury tannins (actually there in abundance) just nudging onto the palate at the end, which is dry but not drying. Very long and rather splendid on the finish with St-Estèphe’s stoniness evident. Very smart indeed with no concessions to simple sweetness.

Generous dark fruit, some mint and sage notes with fine oak underneath, some toast and mocha. Full body with dense young fruit, rigid but rounded tannin adding freshness and weight, savoury cassis flavours with a herbal touch and a long lingering finish.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Meyney springs from the glass with lively notes of red and black cherries, cassis and pencil shavings, plus touches of clove oil and bay leaves. Medium-bodied, the elegantly fruited palate delivers impressively pure black and red fruit layers with ripe, fine-grained tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing savory. A very impressive showing for what remains a relative bargain!

The 2020 Meyney is a very pretty if somewhat understated wine. In 2020 it has a bit less opulence than in the recent past, but that's not a bad thing at all. Silky, elegant and refined, featuring aromatic red fruit character, gravel, cured meat, scorched earth, spice, crushed rocks and rose petals.

Another wine worth seeking out, the 2020 Château Meyney shows the fresh, focused, yet also ripe style of the vintage nicely. Offering lots of pure cassis and black cherry fruits as well as tobacco and classy oak, it’s medium to full-bodied and has a pretty, elegant texture, plenty of mid-palate depth, and ripe yet certainly present and firmer tannins. I love the overall classic vibe as well as its purity and freshness.

The 2020 Meyney has a lively, quite powerful nose delivering plenty of blackberry, boysenberry and briar scents, plus touches of freshly tilled loam and wilted iris flower; I appreciate how forthright this is. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins and graphite-laced blackberry. Quite citric toward the finish, showing Pauillac-like pretentions. This is a classy Saint-Estèphe from Meyney that will age with style.

A punch of bright plummy fruits, a little austere on the finish but one that you feel will age well. Mocha and coffee bean through the mid palate, keeping things moving right along at a fair pace, with a generous handful of rosemary and sage spice on the finish. Harvest 16 September to October 1. Always one of the real value picks in St-Estèphe.

Black and blue fruits with a wealth of Asian spices and espresso is found right off the bat on the nose. On the palate, the wine is rich, supple, lush and polished with a core of ripe, dark, sweet fruits, silky tannins and a finish packed with peppery fruits, chocolate and espresso beans. Give this at least 5-6 years in the cellar and enjoy it over the following 20-25 years. 92-94

Belle bouteille.

Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, dezente Randaufhellung. Schwarze Kirschen, ein Hauch von Weichseln, feine Holzwürze, Nuancen von Tabak und Kräutern. Saftig, elegant, frische Herzkirschen, feine Tannine, frisch strukturiert, angenehme Mineralität, bleibt haften, zarte Nougatnote im Nachhall.

A firm, intense red Bordeaux with blackcurrants and purple fruit, as well as hints of walnuts and some sweet tobacco. It’s full-bodied and dense with layers of fruit and tannins.
