Lean, pure, long, and driven by its Cabernet core, this is an adroit wine with a fair chunk of fine-grained tannin on its finish, making it one of the more backward wines on the Left Bank. The fruit is tense enough to last the journey, and in spite of this crispness, this is a wonderfully balanced wine with an unwavering cassis theme. 17.5+

Tasted on numerous occasions, the 2021 Château Lafon-Rochet has solid, yet slightly reserved aromatics of darker, almost blue fruits and some classic tobacco and lead pencil. It opens up with air and is medium-bodied, with a classic, focused style (I said “Pauillac” in my notes), notable balance, and a great finish. The blend is 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and a splash of Petit Verdot.

Medium-deep crimson. Inky blackberry graphite aromas with herb garden, hint star anise notes. Ample bodied wine with glossy blackcurrant, blackberry fruits, plentiful velvety tannins, lovely mid-palate richness and underlying savoury oak notes. If Lafon-Rochet 2020 showed that it was walking towards grace and elegance, while the vintage of 2021 has taken a solid leap on this path. Compared to the rich baking aromas found in the previous vintages, the oaky notes are more natural and more appropriate this year. Cedar, tobacco leaf, herbs, peppery spice and black raspberries. The wine is medium-bodied, soft, energetic and fresh, with a lifted, red currant and leafy endnote. The wine was made from blending 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. 13% ABV. The is the final vintage for the Tesseron family. The 2021 Lafon-Rochet was picked from 27 September to 8 October with no break between the varieties. There was just a small green harvest resulting in yields of 30hL/ha. It was matured in 50% new oak. It has a tightly wound, backward bouquet with blackberry, briar and graphite scents, quite Pauillac in style (you might see the irony in that). The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, quite firm with a solid backbone. Fresh and slightly muscular on the finish. Fine, but not quite as chiselled as others this year. 13% alcohol.

The 2021 Lafon-Rochet is a wine of notable precision. It will be interesting to see if it gains a bit more flesh in élevage. Today, the 2021 is decidedly lithe in feel. Crushed flowers, mint, rose petal and bright acids lend energy to a core of red berry fruit. Captivating in its inner perfume and elegance, Lafon-Rochet is the most Pauillac-like of the Saint-Estèphes.

Rubinrot, violette Reflexe. Sehr schöne Frucht in der Nase, Cassis, reife Brombeeren, dazu steinige Noten, Minzekräuter, florale Aromen. Im Gaumen straff, satte Frucht, ziemlich viel Druck, das Tannin ist feinkörnig, überlagern die Frucht nicht, sehr gut strukturiert und mit knackigem Finale. Einmal mehr sehr gelungen und mit guten Reserven. 2027-2046 (Verkostet im April 2022. UGCB)

Frais, floral, très violette, mure, framboise, bouquet élégant avec une bouche juteuse, charnue, des tanins structurants mais élégants et une allonge très cabernet. Quelques notes de feuille de murier en finale. Belle bouteille en devenir.

The last vintage produced under the Tesseron family, the 2021 Lafon-Rochet exhibits aromas of dark berries, plums, licorice and spices, followed by a medium-bodied, lively and succulent palate that's fleshy and layered, framed by powdery tannins. A charming, supple effort, it will drink well on release.

Juicy and lively, this has a playful and fun nature to the fruit - sweet strawberry and raspberry with some herbal raspberry leaf touches too and the Cabernet spice and backbone also making an appearance. Nice clarity with a smooth texture and an overall glossy feel to it despite the robust tannins on the finish. Plump and layered with charm. The last vintage under the helm of Basile Tesseron. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3.70pH.
