The 2021 Joanin-Bécot is quite pretty in its aromatics, but a bit firm on the palate. Crushed flowers, tobacco, spice and leather open first, but it’s hard to get past some of the angular contours that make the wine feel compact and unyielding.

Crafted by Juliette Bécot (from Beau-Séjour Bécot) and her team, the 2021 Joanin Bécot unveils its potential with a delightful, vibrant and dynamic profile, enriched with notes of cherries, dark wild berries, peonies and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, lively and gourmand, it’s seamless and supple with a vibrant, juicy core of fruit and an ethereal, saline finish. As usual, this overperforming estate from clay-limestone soils has produced a wine that punches above its weight, representing a significant and commendable achievement for a modest Castillon appellation.

Fruity red with notes of cherries, dark plums, roasted strawberries and walnuts. Creamy and elegant with a medium body, silky tannins and a fresh finish. 75% merlot and 25% cabernet franc. Delicious now, but can hold too.

The 2021 Château Joanin Bécot is terrific, with an incredible sense of minerality as well as pure red and black fruits, medium-bodied richness, good acidity, and polished yet present tannins. It plays in the fresher, elegant style of the vintage yet has good concentration and length. I'd happily buy (and drink) a bottle.

Joanin Bécot exhibits very delicate and adorable aromas in the vintage of 2021. Fragrances of rose and peony unfold gradually, accompanied by fresh hints of fruit tea. The acidity is very refreshing, and the juicy palate carries the chalky tannins. I was surprised to know that Joanin Bécot works on the clay-limestone soil with more clay. While the clay soil of Castillon usually brings a more compact body, this wine dose enjoy more lively and delicate mouthfeel in this vintage. On the nose you find flowers, cocoa, black cherries, espresso and leafy herbs. Medium-bodied, soft, and fresh, you find vibrancy and juicy fruits with touches of red berries, spice, chocolate and herbs on the mid-palate and on the backend. The harvest took place October 6 - October 9. The wine blends 85% Merlot with 15% old vine Cabernet Franc. Some of the vines used here date back 1870! Drink from 2023-2033. 90-92

The 2021 Joanin Bécot has a very appealing, pure black cherry and cassis bouquet that opens nicely in the glass. The palate still has a bit of gas, but I appreciate the balance and freshness, and the structure on the finish. This is promising.

Assemblages réalisés. Vendanges 6, 7 et 8 octobre. Cerise noire, lilas, presque griotte pour un bel éclat de fruits noirs et une fraicheur mentholée sublime. Évolue vers des notes de cassis et de myrtille. Bouche juteuse, presque charnue et droite, du mouvement, une belle fraicheur, une tension magnifique et une allonge structurante superbe. Très bel équilibre d'ensemble. Magnifique toucher de bouche avec des amers racés. L'un des meilleurs rapports qualité-prix de Bordeaux.

This 14-hectare vineyard in the Côtes de Castillon has delivered a fine performance with the 2021 Joanin Bécot. Offering up aromas of cherries, dark berries and subtle hints of pipe tobacco, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and precise, with a generous core of fruit framed by fine tannins and a bright spine of acidity. It's a characterful, beautifully made wine that punches above its weight.

Bramble fruit aromas and lovely subtle perfume to the red summer berries. Smooth and supple palate but the wine has such a vibrancy to it. It has a bit of a wild energy with salty earth, sour cherry, ripe strawberry and a touch of crushed stone and tobacco. You get the minerality and a real display of nuance and detail on the palate. This has character: it’s smooth but with satin-textured tannins giving the support and structure in the mouth with a slow build of flavour to a lifted, fresh finish. An excellent and impressive effort from Côtes de Castillon in 2021. No chapitalisation. 7% press wine. 3.5pH.
