The second wine of this estate, the 2023 Haut-Batailley Verso checks in as 63% Merlot and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon that was aged 12 months in once-used barrels. Very floral and complex, it has lots of violets, spring flowers, smoky tobacco, and both red and black fruits defining its aromatics. It's medium-bodied, fresh, layered, and focused on the palate, with considerable charm and elegance. I love its tannins and overall juicy style, and it will shine for 15 years if well stored. Drink 2026-2040.

The 2023 Verso is a gorgeous second wine. Racy, sumptuous contours wrap around a core of dark cherry/plum fruit and new leather. Floral notes and refined tannins seem to push the fruit forward in this open-knit offering from Haut-Batailley.

The 2023 Verso de Haut-Batailley has a tightly wound bouquet with black cherry, black plum and light cassis scents. The palate is medium-bodied with dark cherries and cedar notes, an underlying bitterness that lends tension, ample weight, although not complex on the finish, fine for what is a Deuxième Vin.

The 2023 Château Haut-Batailley Verso is based on 63% Merlot and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, raised in once-used oak. It’s a big, juicy, medium to full-bodied effort offering beautiful framboise and juicy berry fruit as well a ripe, layered, silky mouthfeel. It's a fruit-loaded, pleasure-bent, hedonistic beauty.

A good dose of spice and cocoa bean on the opening beats, this is pretty concentrated with touches of austerity to the tannins, well balanced if serious. No new oak for ageing, and no Petit Verdot in the blend this year, as it all went into the main wine. 3.52ph, 68IPT.

The 2023 Verso is a very sexy wine. Pliant and supple, with gorgeous fruit purity, the 2023 is a total pleasure bomb. Juicy dark red cherry, red plum, spice and rose petal are some of the notes that are pushed forward. Soft contours wrap it all together in style.

The 2023 Verso de Haut-Batailley comes from younger vines and represents almost half of the estate’s total production. It offers black cherry and blood orange scents mixed with violet petals. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy entry, fine acidity, good purity with a svelte and focused finish. This is a commendable second label.

This is very structured and shows intensity, with plenty of tannins. Light jam in the middle palate. Medium-bodied, savory and juicy. Second wine of Haut-Batailley.
