A step back from the 2006, the 2007 Château Haut-Bailly is nevertheless a forward, pretty, medium-bodied, and nicely balanced effort with outstanding purity. Textbook red and black fruit, loamy earth, and sweet tobacco define the aromatics, and while it doesn't have the concentration of a great vintage, it's a satisfying, elegant Pessac-Leognan to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years.

Perfect for drinking now but sure to last for another decade or more. The aromatics of this are just gorgeous, unfurling in the glass to show russet and undergrowth, liquorice, soft black chocolate and savoury but welcoming berry fruit. This 2007 vintage saw a cool summer but a warm September and October, meaning careful work in the vineyard and patience was necessary. Underestimated on release. The wines might not have the structure for long ageing as with 2010 or 2000, but they are blossoming right now, and offer great pleasure; classic balance.

A little light and evanescent. Quite a bit of acidity. Fruit is light. Just a little hollow. Tarry finish. Lacks fruit. Drink 2012-2019

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Year-On tasting, the 2007 Haut Bailly has a beautiful, quintessential Pessac bouquet with touches of warm gravel filtering through the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive, tightly knit black fruit laced with cedar and white pepper. There is superb weight in this 2007 considering the vintage, doling out fine mineralité on the persistent finish. Very fine, but I would actually wait another couple of years before broaching. Tasted February 2017.

Good deep ruby-red. Primary, high-pitched aromas of crushed berries and spices, with a whiff of artificial flowers. Juicy, pure and intense, with lovely cut to the raspberry and spice flavors. Finishes with good length and lift and a lightly herbal character.

An extremely complex bouquet of cedar, unsmoked cigar tobacco, berry fruit, and earth is followed by a medium-bodied, silky textured wine that builds incrementally, impressing the taster with its purity, overall equilibrium, and length. It is a quintessentially, elegant, flavorful wine to drink now and over the next 12-14 years.... Drink 2010-2024

Shows complex aromas of dark fruits, with bitter chocolate and floral notes. Full-bodied, with silky tannins. Very well-integrated and long. Builds on the palate. Best after 2013.

Delicate, perfumed spice - touch of cinnamon. Deeply coloured, subtle and fine, fluid tannins. Not much flesh but stylish. Drink 2012-19

(a blend of 70% cabernet sauvignon, 26% merlot and 4% cabernet franc) Fresh ruby-red color. Cabernet-dominated aromas of dark plum, tobacco, menthol, licorice and flowers, lifted by pepper and mint nuances. Offers good intensity but moderate flesh, with the pepper and spice notes contributing to an impression of grip. Less fat and pliant than usual for this wine in its youth but quite savory owing to its juicy acidity, which gives the finish a youthfully tart edge. Much of the weaker merlot was declassified into the estate's second wine. This one will be interesting to follow in barrel.

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, fast schwarzer Kern, violette Reflexe.

No attack from mildew - July some green harvest. A deep black/purple colour. Good intensity on the nose of plum-scented fruit with blackberries and raspberries. Very clean and ripe with good minerality. Lovely silky tannins on the palate, full-bodied, lovely mouthfeel, quite floral. Good delineation, blackberries, briary and boysenberry. Lighter on the finish but the aftertaste is evidence of the fine, physiologically ripe tannins. Touches of cedar on the finish. Very feminine for Haut-Bailly and one that should build nicely by the time of bottling. Tasted April 2008.

Sehr tiefes Lila-Rubin.
