Composed of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon and 32% Merlot, the earthy, spicy 2008 offers up notes of underbrush, red and black fruits and subtle smoke in its medium to full-bodied, solidly tannic, structured personality. It will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and keep for two decades.

I love the dark chocolate, currants and light toasted oak on the nose and palate. Full bodied, with fine tannins and pretty fruit. A balanced and refined red. This should be a good value too. Give it at least two or three years of bottle age.

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, jugendliche Reflexe, violetter Rand. In der Nase rauchig unterlegte dunkle Beerenfrucht, zart animalisch, einladende Süße, attraktif, etwas Lebkuchen. Am Gaumen frisch, rotbeerig, gelbe Paprika, etwas frodernde Tannine, trocknet im Abgang etwas aus, hält nicht, was das Bukett verspricht.

Inky ruby color. Captivating aromas of raspberry, blackcurrant, licorice and minerals are complicated by a strong smoky note. Rich, round and deep, with pure flavors of raspberry and plum. A classic Bordeaux with a broad, mouthcoating finish featuring very fine tannins and excellent length. One of the three best wines from this property in the last 15 years.

Mitteldunkles Granat mit lila Schimmer. Aromatisches Bouquet, trockene Fruchtnoten, Heidelbeertouch, jedoch etwas hölzern. Im Gaumen fest, fleischig, mit guten Muskeln und gerbigem Korn, deutliche Adstringenz, Stielwürznote im fordernden, bourgeoisen Finale. Ein etwas harter, von den Tanninen her schon fast etwas brutaler HBL, der Geduld verlangt. Vom Stil her eine Melange zwischen 1985 und 1986. 2018 – 2032

Avec 65% de cabernet-sauvignon et 35% de merlot, Haut-Bages Libéral se montre aujourd'hui resserré par sa prise de bois. Les tanins font preuve d'austérité et amènent en finale une forte astringence; La masse de tanins marque la bouche. L'élevage et le vieillissement en bouteille devront jouer leur rôle pour fondre un ensemble aujourd'hui peu séducteur.

Very dark but healthy. Smells a bit like a Dão - something vaguely goaty! Sumptuous fruit and texture – black berries – what a lot of work has gone into this super-polished wine. Well done! Lots of interest but maybe could do with very slightly more freshness for an even higher score. Certainly makes a statement... Big and dense. Drink 2014-16

Deep purple-red, fragrant, lifted Cabernet fruit, still a little green and slightly herbaceous on the palate, but has precision, purity, potential complexity and a good future. Drink 2015-24.

A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot, this has a light blackberry and dark cherry nose. Good definition but it would benefit from more vigour. There is a touch of greenness just in the background. The palate is fleshy, cloaking quite firm tannins, rich blackberry, boysenberry and dark plum. It would benefit from more clarity and tension, but not bad. May improve by bottling. Tasted April 2009.

Offers some blackberry on the nose and palate, with toasty oak and coffee bean character. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fruity finish. Well done.
