Grandes Murailles - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2019

Every pore of Les Grandes Murailles 2019 exudes the "chalk gray" texture that is the signature character of the limestone plateau. The aroma is relatively reserved, with a dolce aroma of dried blueberries, black plums and mulberries. It’s delicate and elegant, pure and endless, accompanied by detailed tannins on the palate, and the slightly salty finish lingering for a long distance. It is a precious, humble and understated winery. Les Grandes Murailles 2019?????????????????“???”?????????,????????????????????????????????,?????,????????,?????????????????????????????

Aromas of brambleberries, dark chocolate, cedar, tapenade and walnut husk. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tight tannins and fresh acidity. Mineral character on the finish. Better in 2024.

Made by the talented Philippe Cuvelier and coming from a tiny vineyard just beside Clos Fourtet, on the upper plateau, the 2019 Château Les Grandes Murailles has a more restrained, elegant style compared to the more exuberant 2018, yet it's still concentrated, rich, and impressive. Red and black currants, black cherries, chocolate, and leafy tobacco-like notes emerge on the nose, and it's medium to full-bodied, with beautifully polished tannins and a balanced, classic, age-worthy style. Give it 4-5 years and it's going to cruise over the following two decades. This is a hidden gem as always and well worth seeking out!

From a picturesque vineyard on the appellation's limestone plateau next to Clos Fourtet (and similarly owned by the Cuvelier family), the 2019 Grandes Murailles has turned out very well, offering up aromas of wild berries, plums, raw cocoa and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and elegant, it's velvety and vibrant, with beautifully refined tannins and a long, penetrating finish. This is a Saint-Émilion that deserves to be better known.

The 2019 Les Grandes Murailles is seriously impressive. Bright and vibrant, the 2019 marries energy with an extra kick of richness, a super-appealing combination in my book. Red/purplish berry fruit, rose petal, lavender and spice add gorgeous layers of nuance. The 2019 was aged in equal parts barrique and amphora. Les Grandes Murailles has been a bit uneven over the year. The 2019 gives a pretty good idea of what is possible. It is a stellar wine from the Cuvelier family.

The 2019 Les Grandes Murailles has a beautifully delineated bouquet of pure red cherry and blueberry fruit, displaying fine mineralité and great purity. The well-defined palate is medium-bodied, a little flinty, and quite energetic, with an almost pixelated finish. This is one of the best wines that I have tasted from this estate in recent years. Superb.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2019 Grandes Murailles comes galloping out of the glass with notes of baked black cherries, stewed plums and Darjeeling tea plus hints of smoked meats, pencil shavings and tar. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit preserves with a velvety texture and just enough freshness, finishing on a stewed tea note.

The 2019 Les Grandes Murailles is classy and polished to the core. In 2019, Grandes Murailles has a bit more richness and depth than it usually does, which here is a positive as at times this Saint-Émilion can be a bit lean. Not in 2019. Ripe red cherry, plum, mocha, cedar, new leather and spice all flesh out in the glass. Aging in equal parts barrique and amphora gives the fruit tremendous presence. Rich, textured and so seductive, the 2019 is a total pleasure bomb, and yet it retains its classic sense of structure. This is such a gorgeous wine.

Ample red and black currants, leafy herbs, and chocolate notes emerge from the 2019 Château Les Grandes Murailles, and this rich, full-bodied Saint-Emilion has lots of fruit and texture, building tannins, and a great finish. It's a powerful, meaty effort that's going to need 3-4 years of bottle age yet keep for 20 years or more.

The 2019 Les Grandes Murailles has a wonderful black cherry, blueberry and violet scented bouquet, underneath which lies subtle iodine and oyster shell aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very cohesive with a granular texture, the backbone disguised underneath the layers of black fruit. Very impressive persistency here, this is potentially a great Les Grandes Murailles.

Dark garnet in color, the wine is all about the smoke, licorice, espresso bean, flowers, wet earth, and black with dark red fruits. Opulently textured, sexy in style, long and velvety in the finish, give this 4-5 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 2 decades as it ages and evolves. The wine is made from 100% old vine Merlot. 92-94 Pts
