Grand Puy Ducasse - Pauillac 2022

The color is profoundly deep, with aromas that are both rich and well-defined. Black plum, mulberry, and blueberry scents emerge vividly, accompanied by spicy notes of licorice, cinnamon, and vanilla that swirl in the glass. To my surprise, the heavy tannins from En Primeur have vanished, and the fruit fragrances have become much clearer. This wine has shown me a new chapter of Château Grand-Puy Ducasse. Once the new winery is completed, it’s sure to bring even more delightful

The 2022 Grand-Puy-Ducasse exhibits aromas of cassis, tobacco leaf violets and new oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate with a sweet core of fruit, ripe acids and chalky structuring tannins that assert themselves on the finish. This is a solid but somewhat rustic effort.

Intense, luscious, characterful with grippy tannins, this shows the work that has been undertaken at Grand Puy Ducasse over the past few years, heavy rosemary and clove spice on the finish. Hubert de Boüard consultant.

The 2022 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse is a gorgeous effort that might surpass the 2020 when all is said and done. Largely Cabernet Sauvignon (58%) yet with a solid dose of Merlot (40%) and a splash of Petit Verdot, this beauty exhibits a deep purple hue as well as powerful aromatics of blackcurrants, spicy oak, freshly sharpened lead pencils, and a chalky sense of minerality. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, this broad, layered, beautifully textured, and concentrated Pauillac has building tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's not, however, for the instant gratification crowd and needs to be forgotten for 5-7 years, if not a decade. It should see its 30th birthday in fine form.

2028-2047 94/100 ?

The 2022 Grand Puy Ducasse has quite a bold nose with blackberry, bilberry and blue fruit scents, along with a hint of iodine in the background. It's quite ambitious and pulls it off. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, plenty of graphite-infused black fruit and a hint of dark chocolate toward the finish that will be absorbed with time. A powerful Pauillac, this is a Grand Puy Ducasse that should repay cellaring. This is one to watch.

The blackcurrants and lead pencil come through clearly here with crushed-stone undertones that follow through to a full body with a solid core of fruit that is defined and polished. It’s velvety but then turns to refined silk with a lovely finish. Please give this at least four or five years to soften and open.

The 2022 Grand Puy Ducasse is a racy, elegant wine. Broad and ample in the glass, with notable energy, Grand Puy Ducasse is a standout in 2022. Lavender, mocha, espresso, spice and leather play off a core of intense dark fruit. The vibrant, explosive finish is a thing of beauty

Dark and winey, with flashes of game and sweet bay peeking out from behind a dense core of mulled black currant, blackberry and black cherry fruit flavors. Dark licorice and warm earth notes wrap up the finish, while a smoldering cast iron edge lingers. Muscular and burly overall, but there's energy and depth for the requisite cellaring needed. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2028 through 2042. 9,000 cases made.

Ripe and filling, the blackcurrant and black cherry fruit is ripe and fleshy, a nice chewy sensation on the palate as well as cool blue fruit and chalky, minty, liquorice laced edges with fresh mint and crushed stones which give the minerality and the sense of gravel. I like the powerful undertone here, this has structure and backbone and a real drive as well as a sense of stateliness. Quiet, less overtly lively than some, more strict but also more serious in a good way. Tasted twice.

The 2022 Grand Puy Ducasse has an airy nose, well-defined with potpourri, even lavender infusing the black fruit. Pencil box hints emerge with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins. Tightly-coiled black fruit is laced with cracked black pepper and tobacco. The finish is tannic, but one can appreciate the focus and length on the aftertaste. Very fine.

After tasting the Château Grand-Puy Ducasse 2022, I couldn't help but feel regretful as its alluring qualities were overshadowed by its overpowering tannins. The color is deep and the nose is rich, with intense notes of plum, blackberry, and blueberry fruit, and even spicy hints of licorice, cinnamon, and vanilla after swirling the glass. However, at the moment of taking a sip, you will feel like tons of tannins are rushing toward you, completely overturning the delicate fragrance. For those who favor big structures, aging for more than 15 years may unlock a new realm of enjoyment.

Deep crimson. Elderberry, black cherry, cassis aromas and flavours with praline notes, grainy firm/ al dente tannins and well balanced marzipan/ roasted almond notes. Finishes bittersweet at the finish. (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot 35% new oak)

Belle couleur, belle texture, boisé un peu moins bien intégré pour le moment que chez ses pairs et qui durcit un peu la sensation tannique. Nous ne doutons pas que tout cela se fondra harmonieusement une fois en bouteille.

I loved the 2022 Château Grand-Puy Ducasse, another Pauillac that shines for its purity and length. Offering lots of red and black fruits, graphite, tobacco, and spicy oak, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, nicely integrated, ripe, fine-grained tannins, plenty of mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It shows the richer style of the vintage yet has a solid spine of freshness that keeps it light on its feet. 93-95+

Deep in color, the wine is equally dark in fruit. The palate is loaded with perfectly ripe, sweet, lush, blackberries, currants, herbs and spice. The finish, with its sweet and chewy crème de cassis character keeps on going. This should age for at least 2 decades with ease. Drink from 2025-2050.

The 2022 Grand-Puy-Ducasse exhibits notes of sweet plums and cherries mingled with licorice and spices. Medium to full-boded, taut and chalky, with a sweet, concentrated core of fruit and a penetrating finish, it's a youthfully structured effort that concludes with a somewhat drying finish.

Beautiful texture here. Tannins are dense and compact but finely polished and silky. Seamless and even with length and succulence. Medium- to full-bodied. Power with elegance. Endless for this. Finally the best ever.
