A smaller production cuvée based on 100% Merlot and brought up 22 months in new barrels, the 2023 Château La Fleur De Boüard Le Plus sports a deeper ruby/purple hue as well as classy, elegant aromas and flavors of ripe black cherries, mulberries, smoky oak, graphite, and violets. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it has a pure, focused mouthfeel, ripe yet certainly present tannins, and a great finish. It's not going to match the all-time greats here (the 2000 is absolute heaven today), but it's a beautiful Fronsac that will benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and keep for another decade or more. There are roughly 667 cases produced. Drink 2028-2038.

Smoke, licorice, spice, cocoa, licorice, and black cherries pop with little cherries in the nose. On the palate, the wine is round, fruity, sweet, creamy, and already a pleasure in your glass. The wine is produced from 100% old vine Merlot. Drink from 2027-2040.

The 2023 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard, the estate's top selection, turned out beautifully. A blast of inky dark fruit, chocolate, new leather, incense, mocha, espresso, dried herbs and incense stains the palate. Broad, ample and explosive, Le Plus delivers on all counts. Give it a year or two in bottle to soften.

Dark black cherries, licorice, black plums, and chocolate are expressed in the nose. On the palate, the wine is round, lush, forward, and filled with dark, sweet fruits. Medium-bodied, vibrant, and ripe, give it a year or two and it will be great in your glass. The wine is produced from 100% old vine Merlot. Drink from 2026-2042. 92-94 Pts.

Le Plus suffered a little in 2023 with mildew as it is 100% Merlot, but they have done an excellent job of delivering rich damson fruit flavours and layers of espresso that are in the spirit of the wine, while managing to take the foot off the pedal at the right moment. Heavy bottle. 100% new oak for ageing. Goudet-Liquard family with Hubert de Boüard.

The 2023 Le Plus de La Fleur de Boüard is 100% Merlot, hailing from the oldest vines on the estate from the Neac plateau. It was vinified in equal parts tank and barrique. Élevage is projected to be 36 months in wood—very long by Bordeaux standards. We will see how this turns out, but I have never been the biggest fan of the long élevage here.

Pure old-vine merlot made a wine with tension and depth. It’s medium-bodied with juicy fruit and a savory finish. Plenty of black-olive and dark-fruit character. Juicy finish.
