The 2012 Fayat offers good immediacy, but lacks complexity and depth. I would prefer to drink the 2012 over the next few years, while the flavors remain bold and juicy, as there isn't much material here to allow for aging.

This 2012 from Fayat is a deep ruby/purple color and has good ripeness, but wines from this estate always seems to lack complexity and nuance. Overall, it is monolithic and somewhat straightforward. Drink it over the next decade.

Lots of blackberry and dried flower character to this red on the nose, before it gives way to a full body, refined yet firm tannins, fresh acidity and a fresh finish. Drink in 2017.

The Fayat 2012 has a rich, almost opulent bouquet that has plentiful ripe dark cherry and cassis fruit, although it needs a) more personality and b) more tension. The palate is full-bodied with ripe, saturated black fruit but I feel this is slightly overdone and the finish is just a little monotonous. I wanted to find more promise in this Pomerol cru than I could. Tasted April 2013.

Very ripe, with a slightly jammy core of linzer torte, currant pâte de fruit and plum sauce, featuring a bouncy, licorice-filled finish. Should be a solid crowd-pleaser if the structure knits together. —J.M.

This chunky, monolithic effort exhibits plum and black cherry fruit along with a touch of herbaceousness and a medium-bodied finish. It should drink well for 7-8 years. Although the 2012 Fayat (80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc) boasts Michel Rolland as the consultant, this estate has yet to make a successful impression despite M. Rolland’s talent and the commitment by M. Fayat, whose other estates seem to fare better in my tastings.Drink: 2013 - 2021
