Exceptionally classy and exquisitely fruit-driven, this is the definition of immediate gratification and awesome indulgence in 2021. Who knows what will happen when this wine is bottled, and it inevitably shuts down for a few years, but when it emerges, this will be a tour de force for this exemplary property. What I find so incredible is that there are no tropical notes whatsoever – just a symphony of citrus and honey and goodness knows how many magical spells, too.  19+

Fantastic energy and length to this young Sauternes, with dried-apple, apple-pie, spice and cinnamon character . Medium body, medium sweetness and a vibrant finish.

The aromas of Coutet 2021 are dominated by marmelade and lemongrass. Swirling the glass, it sends forth the sweetness of marzipan and loquat extract. Clean and pure on the palate, coupled with crisp and bright acidity, it recreates the spiciness of ginger and parsley seed deep in your mouth. The taste of icy sour plum, luscious but not cloying, really touches me. It is a high-quality Coutet in recent vintages. The 2021 Coutet needs time to cohere in the glass, eventually offering scents of dried honey, pressed flowers and quince. It just needs a little more pizzazz. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity and good weight and tension, showing the energy that is slightly lacking on the nose at the moment. Maybe it could benefit from more unctuousness on the finish, but this remains an enjoyable Barsac that will gain complexity with bottle age.

Mittleres Gelb. Feinduftige, komplexe Nase, Blütenhonig, ein Hauch Dörraprikose, Nüsse und Quitten. Im Gaumen cremig, süsser Auftakt, eine reichhaltige Frucht und eine sehr feine Säure kontern, das hat Struktur und Balance, endet langanhaltend und erstaunlich frisch. Très beau nez d'ananas rôti, légèrement safran et une pointe épicée. Bel équilibre sur le fruit avec de la tension et une finale aérienne. Ce sera un beau Coutet. Bravo !
