Connetable Talbot - Saint-Julien 2022

4^eme Grand Cru Classé de Saint-Julien (Médoc), le Château Talbot s’étend sur 110 hectares d’un seul tenant de vignes au sein de la commune de Saint-Julien appellation remarquable puisqu’elle ne comporte pas moins de 11 grands crus classés. Il appartient depuis 1918 à la famille Bignon-Cordier.

Connétable, le second vin du Château Talbot, a vu le jour dans les années soixante. Il a profité au fil des années de tous les soins apportés au vignoble et des sélections de plus en plus sévères.

Comme son aîné, Connetable est un vin classique et élégant, marqué par une trame nette et bien dessinée à la finale longue et fraîche.

This vintage radiates a captivating, savory aroma, with perfectly ripened fruit and a delicate bouquet of rhubarb jam, sour jujube, and herbal notes wafting from the glass. The entry of the palate is smooth and velvety, with a slim body and soft tannins that complement each other beautifully. A single sip brings an instant wave of joy. On the finish, a gentle touch of saltiness adds exquisiteness and complexity, which is reminiscent of the Grand Vin.

Unfussy, well balanced, soft tannins, brambled berry fruits, rosemary spice, no need to wait too long, less appellation typicty than in the main estate wine, but this is a lovely Left Bank wine.

56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot Fruité et de bonne intensité, le bouquet du Connétable Talbot affiche de la profondeur et de la précision. Cette dernière est également soulignée en bouche et fait office de fil conducteur. Les tannins, crémeux et veloutés, offrent une excellente assise et assurent la tenue ainsi que la fraîcheur. Un vin sapide que l'on pourra déjà apprécier jeune. 2026-2036 92/100

The 2022 Connetable Talbot has a pleasurable nose, perhaps a bit more fruité than it was out of barrel, with blueberry and light black cherry scents. The medium-bodied palate is classic in style, with slightly coarse tannins, a subtle acrid note and a strong tobacco finish. Lovely.

Rich and concentrated fruit, dark blackcurrants, bramble fruit, juicy with a tiny hint of sweetness but quite light and aerial in terms of fleshiness, tannins are super fine and sleek giving this a taught frame and sense of slick direction. Actually feels really classy and classic, not massively layered but delivers a really enjoyable glass. Excellent. Harvest 9-28 September. Yield of 40hl/ha. 3.81pH.

Representing 38% of the red production, the 2022 Connétable Tablot is aged in used barrels and contains more Cabernet than usual. It has a relatively light but able, marine-influenced bouquet, touches of iodine and a very slight savory tincture. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, graphite and sea salt. It needs time to fully knit together on the finish.
