In comparison to the 2021, the 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud, a blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, is less introverted and austere, offering up aromas of dark berries, spices, mulberries and flowers. Medium to full-bodied, generously extracted and concentrated, it's deep and lively and structured with velvety tannins, concluding with a long, delicately spicy and fresh finish. This estate is progressing toward producing more refined and vibrant wines, though this one will benefit from some time in the cellar to integrate its élevage fully.

The 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud has an intense nose with black cherry, blueberry and violet scents, losing the baking powder note I observed out of barrel. The palate is well balanced, fresh and vibrant, with supple tannins, well-judged acidity and impressive harmony on the finish. This performs above my expectations.

On the nose, dark cherries, plums, warm spices and pebbles. It’s medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Textured and solid. A juicy, dense and scented blend of 70% merlot, 25% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink from 2027.

The 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud is a dense, extroverted wine. Inky dark fruit, licorice, menthol and cloves are all amplified. Usually Clos Puy Arnaud is more refined, but in 2022, the vintage dominates and speaks loudly. Even so, this is a compelling offering. I look forward to tasting it with bottle age.

The 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud offers simple blackcurrant and wild strawberry scents on the nose with touches of baking powder. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, saturated tannins and a firm grip. A dense blueberry-tinged finish will require three to four years in bottle. Fine.

The look and feel of this wine is one of quiet confidence, beautifully made wine from owner Thierry Valette. Less exuberant than many in the vintage, with austerity and lean musuclarity to the tannins, then unfurls to reveal fragrant peony and tomato leaf notes, sappy and mouthwatering, understated and yet fully ripe, excellent quality. Harvest September 3 to 15, certified organic and biodynamic. Ageing in 10% new oak, alongside oak casks and earthenware jarres, with 3 months in cement vats before bottling unfined. 3.35ph.

The 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud should be outstanding. It has a forward, juicy, sexy style in its red, blue, and black fruits as well as medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, notes of smoked tobacco, chocolate, and earth, ripe tannins, and great finish. I love its overall balance as well as its length, and it's going to be a hidden gem in the vintage.

The 2022 Clos Puy Arnaud is a real stunner, and one of the great under the radar gems on the Right Bank. The 2022 is an especially rich, heady wine. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, leather and gravel build in a heady, sumptuous wine that delivers the goods. Clos Puy Arnaud could easily challenge many more illustrious names on the Right Bank. Drinking window : 2027-2027

This estate is producing more and more characterful, high quality wines, and the the 2022 is one of the best ever.
