Dépositaire de quelque 800 ans de tradition viti-vinicole, Stephan von Neipperg gère aujourd’hui avec passion et talent les différentes propriétés familiales bordelaises acquises dès 1971 par son père: Château Canon La Gaffelière et La Mondotte, 1er Grands Crus Classés B de Saint-Emilion, Clos de l'Oratoire, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, Clos Marsalette, Pessac-Léognan, et le Château d'Aiguilhe, Castillon - Côte de Bordeaux

Clos de l'Oratoire, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé

Le Clos de l’Oratoire, situé sur le coteau nord-est de Saint-Emilion, s'étend sur 13 hectares. Son terroir de molasse de Fronsac, composé d’une sous-couche sableuse et d’un sous-sol argileux, convient particulièrement au Merlot, présent à 80 % dans l’encépagement.

Un travail minutieux est effectué tout au long des saisons, afin de préserver toutes les qualités de ce vignoble.

La propriété est certifiée "Agriculture Biologique" depuis 2020.

The 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire is an elegant, sophisticated wine. Silky tannins and lifted aromatics convey finesse. Crushed flowers, mint, red/purplish fruit, graphite and blood orange are finely knit together. Lithe and elegant, Clos de l'Oratoire is a gorgeous Saint-Émilion from the Neipperg family.

The 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire has a fresher and more vital bouquet than the d'Aiguilhe, with blackberry and briar scents, touches of sous-bois and clove. The palate is medium-bodied with more weight on the entry, though not complex overall, and it just misses a little precision toward the finish. Not bad though, so afford this a year in bottle.

Blueberries and crushed stones alongside lead pencil and milk chocolate. Some clove and white-pepper highlights as well. Medium-bodied with cocoa and berry flavors, velvety medium tannins and a spicy finish. Bright and plush but not heavy. A blend of 75% merlot and 25% cabernet franc. Drink after 2028.

Zum ersten Mal beinhalten der Clos de l'Oratoire die massalen Selektionen des Weinguts. Die Idee war, den Ausdruck des Cabernet Franc und seine Frische zu verstärken. Das Bouquet betont die blumige Seite mit Nuancen von Veilchen, aber auch klassischen Noten von schwarzen Beeren und Lakritze. Am Gaumen zeigt sich der Wein wohl strukturiert; alles ist an seinem Platz, in wunderbarer Harmonie mit gut eingebundenen Tanninen, die Kraft und Fülle bieten. Fruchtiger und anhaltender Abgang.

The 2023 Clos De L'Oratoire is another beautiful wine from this team. Black raspberries, cassis, spring flowers, spicy oak, and graphite all define the aromatics, and it's medium to full-bodied, with a pure, elegant, polished mouthfeel and outstanding length.

The 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire is deep garnet-purple in color. Notes of black cherries, boysenberry preserves, and licorice jump from the glass, giving way to wafts of camphor and dusty soil. The medium to full-bodied palate is densely laden with taut, muscular black fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing with a minty kick. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc.

Clos de L’Oratoire (Saint Émilion; situated next to Dassault; 75% Merlot; 25% Cabernet Franc; a final yield of 44 hl/ha; 13.5% alcohol; tasted with Stephane and Ludovic von Neipperg at Canon La Gaffelière). Delicate, floral, with a little lily and lilac and a very dark but subtle and refined berry fruit – black berry and mulberry. Cedar. A little leafy thyme and oregano too. A wine of grace and charm, with a sense of profundity coming from the Cabernet Franc. Lovely balance and harmony. Likely to represent excellent value.

Flowers, black raspberries, incense, and licorice fill the nose. On the palate, the wine is supple, creamy, fresh, and vibrant. The fruits show the influence of the Cabernet Franc with their spice, and floral edge. There is lift to the sweet, ripe, round berries on the mid-palate, and in the finish. The wine blends 75% Merlot, with 25% Cabernet Franc. 13.5% ABV. Drink from 2027-2042. 93-95 Pts.

The 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire is one of the most changed wines in the Neipperg portfolio. An increase in Cabernet Franc is immediately evident in the wine's explosive bouquet and overall energy. Rose petal, sage, mint, dried flowers and orange peel race across the palate. Clos de l'Oratoire is absolutely beguiling in 2023. I can't wait to taste it from bottle.

The 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire contains more Cabernet Franc from recent plantings (25%), while the other 75% is Merlot. Matured in 30% new oak, it has a cohesive nose with raspberry and wild strawberry fruit, touches of crushed limestone coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky-smooth entry and moderate weight, a liberal sprinkling of white pepper and a touch of bay leaf stepping forward near the finish. There's impressive terroir and commendable length here. The greater proportion of Cabernet Franc really benefits this wine.

Dark ruby, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the edge. Delicate aromas of red cherries, cranberries, blackberries and orange zest. Medium body, red berryish touch, fresh, delicate fruit, elegant and with a certain light-footedness, a harmoni- ous, uncomplicated food wine.

Aromas of cherries, dark chocolate, spices and violets introduce the 2023 Clos de l'Oratoire, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered wine that's charming and harmonious on the attack, displaying a touch of youthfully grippy tannin on the finish. The blend contains fully 25% Cabernet Franc.
