Dépositaire de quelque 800 ans de tradition viti-vinicole, Stephan von Neipperg gère aujourd’hui avec passion et talent les différentes propriétés familiales bordelaises acquises dès 1971 par son père: Château Canon La Gaffelière et La Mondotte, 1er Grands Crus Classés B de Saint-Emilion, Clos de l'Oratoire, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, Clos Marsalette, Pessac-Léognan, et le Château d'Aiguilhe, Castillon - Côte de Bordeaux

Clos de l'Oratoire, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé

Le Clos de l’Oratoire, situé sur le coteau nord-est de Saint-Emilion, s'étend sur 13 hectares. Son terroir de molasse de Fronsac, composé d’une sous-couche sableuse et d’un sous-sol argileux, convient particulièrement au Merlot, présent à 80 % dans l’encépagement.

Un travail minutieux est effectué tout au long des saisons, afin de préserver toutes les qualités de ce vignoble.

La propriété est certifiée "Agriculture Biologique" depuis 2020.

The 2021 Clos de l’Oratoire is a gorgeous, dynamic wine. Energetic and brilliant, the 2021 sizzles with tension. Bright acids and veins of tannin give the wine its vibrant personality. Dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, rose petal, mint and mocha abound.

Offers nearly plump blackberry and black cherry compote flavors, with a note of melted licorice. A strong effort for the vintage, this version shows sweet toast that coats the finish, and there's minimal grain. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2030. 3,750 cases made. –JM

A charming, character loaded 2021 with lots to like, the 2021 Clos De L'Oratoire should be outstanding. Spice, sandalwood, tobacco, and ripe red and black cherry fruits give way to a medium-bodied, balanced, elegant wine. It showed beautifully on numerous occasions.

The 2021 Clos de l'Oratoire was picked October 1–13. This is just missing a bit of vigor and presence on the nose compared to the Canon-la-Gaffelière. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, nice balance and neatly integrated oak, though it lacks a bit of flair on the finish. Still, it should give 10–12 years of pleasure.

The 2021 Clos de l'Oratoire is terrific. It offers a striking mix of dark blue/purplish fruit, chocolate, lavender, spice, menthol and crushed rocks. Dynamic and vibrant in the glass, impresses for its finely cut, somewhat nervous personality. The 2021 represents a pretty big stylistic shift. Some of that is the vintage and some is an evolution in style. The combined effects of those two factors make for a compelling Clos de L'Oratoire.

Assemblages non réalisés. Très beau nez éclatant et frais avec des arômes de cassis, de violette, de fruits frais et de mure. Tendu, beau grain de tanin pour une structure élégante et un vin qui joue clairement le registre du fruité élégant. De l'allonge en finale. Très charmeur.

Exhibiting notions of cherries, blackberries and licorice, the 2021 Clos de l'Oratoire is medium to full-bodied, broad and enveloping, with a textural attack, bright acids and a fleshy core of fruit, framed by fine tannins that gently assert themselves on the finish. It's one of the more gourmand, generous wines in the von Neipperg range.
