Bright ruby.  Lively aromas of blackberry, violet and licorice.  Sweet, pliant and ripe, with enticing, somewhat simple flavors of blackberry, tobacco and bitter chocolate.  An easygoing wine but shows more structure and verve than the sample I tried at the Primeurs.  Finishes with sweet tannins and decent persistence.

This medium ruby-colored blend from proprietor Jonathan Maltus is composed of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. It possesses lots of red and black fruits, silky tannins, and a round, seductive mouthfeel. Enjoy it now and over the next 5-7 years.

A wine showing lovely integration of fruit and tannins, with cedar, berry and hints of cocoa and hazelnuts. Full but balanced and very refined. Better in 2016 when it all comes together in the bottle, but very pretty now.

The core of steeped damson plum and raspberry fruit is lined with savory, menthol and cedar notes, which eventually win out on the slightly drying finish. Drink now.

(70% merlot and 30% cabernet franc; 45 h/h): Bright ruby. Forward, fruity, charming aromas of red berries and sweet spices. Bright and fresh but soft in the mouth, with good carry to the flavors of strawberry, flowers and white pepper. Not the last word in complexity but immensely enjoyable Teyssier has 25 hectares of vines on sand and gravel soil close to Monbousquet, yet the vines did not suffer at all during the dry, warm springtime conditions because the estate did not de-leaf.

From Jonathan Maltus’s home property, the 2011 Teyssier (a blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc) is a powerful, plush St.-Emilion displaying notes of ink, toasty oak, volcanic earth and hints of chocolate and coffee. Medium-bodied and deep with loads of color as well as fruit, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.

The biggest brand in Saint-Emilion (15,000 cases) and good value. Amiable, round, 'classic'. Drink 2014-2020.

Stone, smoke, coffee and boysenberry are found in this soft-textured, medium-bodied wine that ends with bright cherry notes. 87-89 Pts

This vines of Teyssier are located next to Monbousquet rather than round Jonathan Maltus’s house. It has a sweet dark plum and crème de cassis nose. The palate has a sweet, citric entry with good acidity. The Cabernet Franc (around 25%) imparts fine structure towards the finish with a bitter cherry aftertaste. Tasted April 2012

70% merlot, cab fran 30%, once again a great quality wine for the price. The vines cover 5 hectares by the chateau itself (sandy terroir), but a full 25 hectares by Monbousquet, most of which goes into this wine. This has lovely freshness, well defined fruits. Cold soak, 28 degree fermentation. 48hl/h.

A Jonathan Maltus wine. Deep crimson. Ripe, intense and spicy. Unexpectedly juicy on the palate. Fresh, bright fruit, lots of spice, tannins coated in fruit. Fresh overall. (JH)

Delivers a good, direct beam of blueberry and pomegranate notes, with a dash of toasted spice on the finish. Light but fresh.—J.M.

A little lean in the center palate but pretty berry, mineral and citrus character.
