Wine Advocate

A brilliant achievement and one of the wines of the vintage, Pape Clement's remarkable 2001 should surpass their fabulous 2000. A magnificent effort, it was produced from yields of 28.6 hectoliters per hectare, and the final blend (70% of the production) consisted of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The multi-textured/layered 2001 boasts an opaque purple color, amazing purity and presence on the palate, a sensational texture, and loads of graphite, lead pencil, plum, fig, black cherry, and currant fruit. Medium-bodied, extraordinarily elegant as well as remarkably concentrated, pure, and suave, it is a tour de force in winemaking. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2028.
