This superbly-situated estate rarely lives up to its potential, but the 1993-95 vintages appear to be moving in the right direction. A deep saturated ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet, ripe, cherry, blackcurrant, and Asian spice aromas. This medium-bodied, elegant, pretty wine possesses a velvety texture, fine concentration, and no hollowness or hard tannin (two characteristics that plagued many 1994s). Drink this well-made, smooth wine over the next 8-10 years.

Some good fruit flavors, but slightly stemmy. Medium bodied, with medium tannins and a berry, green finish. Best after 1998.

This beautifully-situated estate never quite lives up to the potential of its terroir. That being said, the 1994 is a successful wine, with a deep ruby color, and an attractive nose of red and black fruits, spice, underbrush, and oak. With a sweet attack, excellent purity, and medium body, this is an attractive, supple Larcis-Ducasse for drinking over the next decade. All of the wines in this segment were tasted between March 19 and March 28 in Bordeaux. Most of the important wines from both the 1994 and 1995 vintages were tasted three separate times during my ten-day stay in Bordeaux

This property has a tendency to turn out tannic, tough, impenetrable wines that require better fruit extraction to balance out the hardness. However, that does not appear to be a problem with the husky, broad-shouldered 1994. The moderately dark ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of sweet, spicy, black fruits, oak, herbs, and damp earth. With medium to full body, a high tannin level, plenty of concentration, low acidity, and a backward style, this St.-Emilion will require 4-6 years of cellaring. It should admirably repay those with patience.
