Again this is totally drinkable, with graphite notes and layers of juicy damson and black cherry fruits playing off the silky tannins. This perhaps gives a clue as to why the Bordelais were stubborn on their pricing of the 2007s. Genuinely good drinking today, and should be enjoyed.

Bright ruby-red. Black cherry, licorice, leather and minerals on the nose. Sweet and pliant but slightly funky, with flavors of dark fruits, leather, tobacco leaf and herbs. With its rather silky texture, good breadth and restrained sweetness, this should drink well relatively early.

Bright ruby-red. Cassis, licorice, shoe polish and a hint of minerals on the slightly minty nose. A juicy midweight with a fine-grained texture and a restrained sweetness to its dark berry and floral flavors. Not a big wine but stylish, subtle and nicely balanced. Finishes with dusty tannins and a note of chocolate.

Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, tiefe Farbe. In der Nase einladende Cassisfrucht, zart ätherisch, dezente Anklänge von Orangenschalen, zarte Gewürzanklänge. Am Gaumen saftig, feine schokoladige Textur, stoffige Kirschenfrucht, komplex, dunkle Beeren, zitronig-frische Struktur, bleibt sehr gut haften, rotbeeriges Finale, mineralischer Rückgeschmack.

Dégusté au château. Arôme net, précis et racé de cèdre, vin très équilibré, élégant dans son tannin, peut-être un peu moins vineux que ce qu’on attend de ce cru, mais sa classe est évidente.

Cropped at 40hl/ha and tasted at the château, I was just a little underwhelmed by this wine, perhaps in part because I was so smitten with last year’s 2006. A deep garnet hue. The nose has modest intensity with blackcurrant leaf, a touch of shellfish and a little iodine that turns into bouquets of violets with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied, very foursquare, very Pauillac with its tobacco flavours and dry, almost earthy finish. I hope this has sufficient fruit concentration because the finish is rather attenuated and dry. Missing the joie-de-vivre of its proprietor this year? Look forward to re-tasting this closer to bottling. Tasted April 2008.

Only mid concentration of crimson. Warm, toasty nose, very sweet start, juicy fruit – quite different from most wines. There is energy there but pretty dry tannins on the finish. Pretty good for the vintage. A little chewy and green and a bit raw on the finish. 17+
