Wonderfully perfumed with violets and essence of raspberries that follow through to a medium to full body with totally integrated tannins that are tight and poised. You almost can’t “see” the tannins, but you feel them. Best after 2025, but already so pretty.

The second wine from this great estate, the 2019 La Chapelle De La Mission Haut-Brion is based on 50% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Cabernet Franc. It might be the second wine of the vintage and has plenty of classic La Mission sexiness and opulence as well as textbook notes of sweet red and black currants, tobacco leaf, exotic spice, acacia flowers, and lead pencil. Full-bodied, round, expansive, and powerful, yet also light on its feet and flawlessly balanced, it's a stunning Pessac in its own right to enjoy over the coming 20 years or so.

Unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, orange rind and rich spices, framed by a deft application of cedary new oak, the 2019 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with lively acids and a more tightly wound profile than its counterpart across the street. 92+

The 2019 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is absolutely gorgeous. Rich and pliant in the glass, with striking depth and fine balance, La Chapelle is everything a second wine should be. Succulent red berry fruit, iron, white pepper, smoke and tobacco lend nuance. There's real intensity and resonance here. I would give the 2019 a few years in bottle to come around fully.

The 2019 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion has a fragrant, well-defined nose of wild strawberry and black currant mixed with singed leather and light incense aromas, pretty and quite focused. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly powdery texture, fine acidity, good weight and a lovely, saline finish that gets the saliva flowing. A thoroughly fine Deuxième Vin.

The 2019 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion is composed of 50.1% Merlot, 45.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4.4% Cabernet Franc, harvested from the 11th of September to the 2nd of October. The estimated label alcohol degree is 14.5%. Deep garnet-purple in color, it prances out of the glass with showy notes of crushed black cherries, warm blueberries and mulberries plus suggestions of cinnamon toast, aniseed, lilacs and dark chocolate. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with poise and sophistication, offering a gentle earthy underpinning to all that black fruit, framed by fine-grained tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and spicy.

The 2019 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is a wine of real depth and grandeur. Time in the glass brigs out layers of textural richness and resonance in the inky dark fruit, gravel, smoke, licorice, incense and pipe tobacco flavors. Readers will have a hard time keeping their hands off this jewel of a wine. Tasted a day later, the 2019 was every bit as compelling. It is a superb second wine that will likely come in at or near the top of my predicted range.

The 2019 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion has a very pure but slightly introspective nose at first. This demands coaxing, gradually unfurling to reveal blackberry, cassis and iodine aromas that are nicely integrated with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with very supple tannins. It is very harmonious and lithe. Hints of espresso permeate the sweet black fruit with a corpulent, "sunny" finish.

Delicious already with iodine, oyster shell, crushed stone and blackcurrants. Full body, round tannins and a juicy finish.

Gently sweet, faintly gravelly nose; very full moderately concentrated; fairly fresh, finely tannic; sweet in fruit, warm, polished, long, and subtle across the palate, all within a very fine, dry tannin texture, graceful and refined and with very excellent aromatic persistence. Discreet, if a touch hard...for my palate anyway, the fine -textured tannins slightly alcohol-hardened, meaning it will need plentty of time.
