The 2010 Branaire-Ducru has a lovely mélange of red and black fruit, hints of dried blood and autumn leaves suggesting that this is moving into its secondary phase. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, good body and a fresh marine-tinged finish that is an absolute joy. There is an abiding symmetry about this wine and it is in for the long-haul. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal. Drink 2023-2055

Bright red-ruby. Aromas and flavors of cassis, mulberry, minerals, licorice and bitter chocolate. Lush, sweet, deep and densely packed if rather youthfully backward, with terrific material to support its strong vanilla and mocha oak element and its serious but sweet tannins. Ultimately quite seamless but in need of several years of aging to harmonize and express itself more fully. 92(+?) points

Very polished and stylish, with a velvety feel to the layers of crushed plum, currant and blackberry, while bittersweet cocoa and black licorice glide in on the gorgeous, black tea-infused finish. Features a lovely allure rather than raw power, making this possibly the prettiest St.-Julien of the vintage. There's plenty in the tank for cellaring as well. Best from 2014 through 2030. –JM

This wine is more backward than I would have normally expected, but nevertheless, it is very impressive. The 2010 Branaire-Ducru displays an inky bluish purple color and loads of mulberry, raspberry, black currant, graphite and floral notes in its intense aromatics. Medium to full-bodied , with sensational ripeness, purity, texture and length, the tannins are slightly more prominent than I remember from barrel, but they are sweet and ripe (as opposed to astringent and bitter). This beautiful wine needs 4-6 years of cellaring and should keep 25-30 years.Producer Patrick Maroteaux continues to fine-tune and turn out a succession of brilliant wines from this chateau, which sits across the famous Medoc Route du Vin from Beychevelle.

Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The Branaire Ducru is slightly richer and more extroverted on the nose compared to the Beychevelle. There are copious black cherries, bilberry and cedar aromas, with a hint of Lapsong Souchang. The palate is medium-bodied with spicebox and black pepper on the entry. Good structure here: a Saint Julien that has gained a little breeding during its élevage. Very fine. Tasted November 2012

A layered young red with lots of black olives and berries on the nose. Full body, with velvety and chewy tannins. It all comes together at the end with a lovely sweet fruit. Try after 2017

This is very clear and precise, with blackberry and licorice and hints of toasted oak. Full bodied, with super-refined tannins and a pretty finish. This is very classy and elegant. Tight and refined.

2010: Proprietor Patrick Maroteaux has completed a decade of brilliant performances at this chateau across the Medoc’s Route de Vin from Beychevelle and a stone’s throw from Ducru Beaucaillou, St.-Pierre and Gloria. A fabulous effort, the 2010's notes of raspberry jam, black currants, crushed rocks and spring flowers are followed by a wine of impeccable purity, medium to full-bodied power, sweet tannin and stunning texture and length. With superb richness and beautiful overall equilibrium, it will benefit from 4-5 years of cellaring and keep for 25 or more years. Drink 2015-2040

Tiefes Purpur. Aromatisches Bouquet, rote Pflaumen und Damaszenerpflaumennoten, warm, mit einem Anglug von Dörrfrüchten und heller Schokolade. Recht cremiger Gaumen mit einer eleganten Souplesse, die Säure muss sich noch in die recht schön ausgelegten Tannine integrieren, feine Adstringenz, dezent kerniges Finale, kann noch zulegen. Wir hätten - bei verschieden Négociants - diesen Wein gerne in aller Ruhe und bei sehr guten Konditionen verkostet, aber nirgends war ein Fassmuster vorhanden. Einzige Möglichkeit: die offizielle Präsentation der Union des Grands Crus. Diese fand auf Château Branaire-Ducru selbst statt. Im Saal war es dampfend-warm und der Wein wurde uns mit einer Temperatur von etwa 25°C serviert. Keine gute Bühne für einen Wein. 2018-2045.

The deep ruby 2010 Branaire-Ducru has lifted aromas of cedar, plums and blackberries, followed by layers of floral notes and mixed berry fruits that are reserved and focused. This is made in a traditional rather than a ripe voluptuous modern style, and the overall impression is of a beautifully restrained classic St Julien of great balance and elegance.

Un peu réduit et rappelant sa cuve d’acier de naissance, structure allégée en milieu de bouche mais, crémeuse en finale, très agréable, mais l’échantillon ne rend pas pleinement justice au vin. Un autre le remet mieux e perspective. La note est une moyenne.

A son légendaire équilibre, le cru a ajouté cette année beaucoup plus de densité et de largeur en milieu de bouche. Cette nouvelle constitution s'explique par une approche différente du traitement des vins de presse. Longue finale à la texture raffinée. Nez subtil. Corps profond. Une grande réussite. Ma meilleure note donnée à ce cru en primeur.

Branaire Ducru From an assemblage of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23.5% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 2.5% Cabernet Franc, (Similar to the 2009) the wine sports a deep ruby tint. Jammy black raspberry, spice and hints of toasty oak start off the perfume. In the mouth, fresh cassis, mocha, olives and spice combine with strong, ripe tannins, ending in a blackberry filled finish. The wine reached 13.8% alcohol, which is higher than they recorded in 2009. Due to the high level of acidity, there is no sensation of heat. According to the owner, Patrick Maroteaux, one of the keys to the success in 2010 is due to their new method of handling the press wine. This includes ageing the press wine in one year old barrels and utilizing more selection in the press wine. 40% of the press wine was allocated to the Grand Vin. The remainder was included in the second wine. 93-94 Pts

Tasted 17 Feb: Very dark purple. Nice freshness on the nose. Very round and supple and polished. Opulent without being sweet. All assembled by end Feb with about 9% vin de presse. More approachable than most of the 2010s I have tasted so far. Fresh and the fruit almost disguises the marked tannins on the finish. Stricter selection than usual. Dry – very dry summer. 41 hl/ha compared to 47 hl/ha in 2009. Small berries. Tasted blind 8 Apr: Very sweet, almost Marmite aromas. Great freshness but no great intensity on the palate. A little angular with some green notes on the finish but a competent wine. Relaxed and comfortable. Not forced. (Score: 16.5 18-34) Drink 2017-2030
