The 2018 Arômes de Pavie is a full-throttle beauty. Black cherry, chocolate, licorice, espresso, new leather and spice are all kicked up in this decidedly opulent, flamboyant second wine. All of the richness of the year comes through loud and clear. The style is decidedly pushed, as is the oak imprint.

The 2018 Arômes de Pavie is made up of 65% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine has a 3.56 pH and 14.42% alcohol. Deep garnet-purple colored, it comes barreling out of the glass with powerful scents of stewed black cherries, mulberries and plum preserves, plus suggestions of hoisin, chocolate box, anise and underbrush with a touch of dried mint. The full-bodied palate is densely packed with ripe, concentrated black fruits and loads of savory accents, framed by rounded tannins and superb freshness, finishing long and beautifully layered.

Black and red fruits with loads of licorice, dark cocoa, plum, espresso and spice box notes are quick to surface on the nose and palate. Lush, round, forward and fruity, the wine focuses on its freshness, layers of sweet berries and dark cocoa oriented finish.

The 2018 Arômes de Pavie comes across very ripe and exotic on the nose of black cherries, dates and thickly spread raspberry jam. It feels a little smudged compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins and quite grainy in texture, but like the Monbousquet, I find it too dry on the finish, with a bitter aftertaste.

This shows blackberry, blue-fruit, dark-chocolate and black-truffle aromas that follow through to a full body with crushed-stone, fruit and black-olive character. Layered with firm tannins that are chewy and intense. A serious Aromes. 65% merlot, 18% cabernet franc and 17% cabernet sauvignon. Try after 2024.

Quite ripe and inviting, with warmed raspberry and boysenberry compote flavors that are focused, with anise, graphite and sweet toast accents lending a hand. A bit dressed up but will certainly have fans. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2029. –JM

The 2018 Arômes de Pavie was picked from 22 September until 8 October. There is plenty of red and black fruit on the nose: cassis, black cherries, raspberry coulis with blood orange and light marmalade notes that develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with thick chewy tannins. This is a dense and powerful Arômes with a "wall" of tarry black fruit towards the finish that rather negates pleasure on the finish. Hopefully this will soften by the time of bottling and with bottle age.

The 2018 Arômes de Pavie is a gorgeous, sexy wine. Floral, silky and impeccable, the 2018 is impressive from the very first taste. The purity of the flavors is striking. Over the last few years Pavie has really upped their game with Arômes. The 2018 might be the best yet. Nuanced floral notes add the closing shades of complexity to this gracious, exquisite Saint-Émilion. Above all else, the Arômes de Pavie is absolutely delicious.

Crême de mûre, fruits noirs, cerise confite. Bouche coulante, fruits noirs en attaque.,vin pulpeux, relâché, avec un tanin truffé noble propre au grand terroir de côteau. 
L'élevage se montre discrètement en finale, très belle bouteille.

The second of wine of Pavie should be a brand of its own. Ripe, rich and stony, the fruit is ripe, round, juicy, fresh and stylish, leaving with ample fruits and minerality in the finish. You can enjoy this young while waiting for its big brother to develop.

The 2018 Arômes de Pavie is made up of 65% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested September 27 to October 8 with yields of 42 hectoliters per hectare. The wine has a 3.56 pH and 14.42% alcohol. Very deep purple-black in color, it is a little shy to begin, opening out to give scents of baked black and red cherries, mulberries and blackberry tart with suggestions of licorice, mocha, tilled soil, smoked meats and lilacs with a touch of oolong tea. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with ripe, rich black fruit, framed by firm, rounded tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory. This is a very serious second wine that bears more than a passing resemblance to Château Pavie.

Impressive liquorice and dark chocolate notes seem a little over concentrated, but with texture and punch. It's big and goes long on black cherry and damson fruits, but is not as fresh as some. 50% new oak. 42hl/ha in 2018. 3.56pH. Drinking Window 2025 - 2038
