The Rugiens 2006 - Pommard 1er cru - Bouchard Ainé & Fils
By installing a flourishing trade in linen and linen in Burgundy in 1731 and then developing a wine commissioner activity, Michel Bouchard was at the origin of the Burgundian roots of the family. His eldest son Joseph took his suite in 1750 and anchored the Bouchards in the Côte d'Or. Closer to men and to the vines, they have developed a unique know-how, the business of merchant - winemaker - breeder with sole concern the constant search for quality, authenticity in style and prestige in the name. For more than two centuries, it has been the mission of Maison Bouchard Aîné & Fils. The history of the great families of wine merchants in Burgundy is rich and complex. However, at present, few are still active. Maison Bouchard Aîné & Fils is an exception, with a few others, which can boast more than two centuries of history. Appellation communale, from the Côte de Beaune, harvested from the delimited parts of the village of Pommard, this appellation covers 337 hectares in red only, 125 of which are classified in 1er Cru. The mention "1er Cru" is a distinction granted to certain climates whose wines are traditionally more esteemed. They are the subject of a specific delimitation. Only 11% of the wines harvested in Burgundy can claim this privilege. "Les Rugiens" consists of two main plots: "Les Rugiens Hauts" and "Les Rugiens Bas". The word "rugiens" is derived from the word "red" which recalls the color of the soil of this plot, due to a very high iron content.
