Red Pavilion - Château Margaux - Margaux 2004 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48

The blending operations are primarily intended to produce the best possible Château Margaux. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 But the increased severity of this selection, as well as the shelving of a third batch, once again allowed our second wine to worthily support the first. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 It also has the stuff, without having the grain: its nose is powerful, its exceptional concentration, its rich and dense tannic structure. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Merlot represents 40% of its blend, Cabernets 55% and Petit Verdot 5%. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48

Tasted at Bordeaux Index annual 10-year on tasting from an ex-château bottle. The Pavillon Rouge de Margaux 2004 is a little muted on the nose but opens nicely with red berries, cedar, black pepper and freshly rolled tobacco. On the second sample at Bordeaux Index there is an extra dimension of crushed violets and lavender. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and clean and fresh black fruit. It feels quite toasty in the mouth and one bottle felt too austere at Farr Vintners, the sample at Bordeaux Index imbued with more grace and freshness. Tasted March 2014.

Margaux’s second wine, the 2004 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, may turn out to be outstanding. Its deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by fleshy notes of black currants, cherries, smoke, earth, and spring flowers. Lovely, ripe, and opulent, it is best consumed during its first 10-15 years of life.

Pretty blackberry and cherry aromas follow through to a medium body, with fine tannins and a fruity, clean finish. The second wine of Margaux. Best after 2010.

An impressive effort, the opaque ruby/purple-tinged 2004 Pavillon Rouge exhibits aromas of flowers, black currants, cherries, smoke, and earth. With good freshness, medium body, abundant fruit, and sweet tannin, it should drink well for 12-15 years.

A balanced and fruity wine with good blackberry and currant character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh finish. Grows on the palate. Medium finish. Pretty.
