Possessing slightly more purity (but maybe not the complexity) than the 2011, the 2012 Cote Rotie la Mouline offers a heavenly perfume of cured meats, pecking duck, violets and cassis. This flows to a full-bodied, seamless, absolutely hedonistic Cote Rotie that has good acidity, ripe, polished tannin and a great finish. Of the three single parcel Cote Roties, it’s the most approachable, but will still drink beautifully for three decades or more.

Similar in quality to the 2011, the 2012 Cote Rotie La Mouline has terrific floral notes intermixed with layers of sweet cassis, olive tapenade, vanilla bean, pepper and roasted meats. Full-bodied, vibrant and with incredible purity, it has brilliant concentration, ultra-fine tannin and perfectly integrated acidity. It should be approachable with short-term cellaring and have two decades of longevity.

The 2012 Cote Rotie La Mouline is pure elegance and finesse, with full-bodied richness and depth, solid underlying structure and beautiful overall purity and freshness. Backward and dense on the nose, with cassis, blackberry and assorted floral nuances, it has more density and depth than the 2011, yet is more approachable and evolved than either the 2009 or 2010. A blend of 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier that will spend 40 months in barrel, It will be a candidate for short-term cellaring and should have two decades of longevity.
