Since 1986, the plantations of young vines have required the assembly of a second wine christened L'ESPRIT DE CHEVA-LIER. The Spirit is also a way of making a wine. By baptizing his second wine L'ESPRIT DE CHEVALIER, the Bernard Family wishes above all to bear the mark of Chevalier and reflects the "Spirit" of the property: power and complexity, but also finesse and elegance. L'ESPRIT DE CHEVALIER red is aged for 14 months in oak barrels, one-third of which are new barrels. It is an attractive wine, which is appreciated younger than the great wine.

The 2016 L'Esprit de Chevalier has a refined bouquet with earthy blackberry and bilberry fruit, a light seawater scent emerging with time. The palate is a little rustic on the entry. There is a touch of hardness that you have to overlook, before it segues into a grippy mid-palate and a rather masculine, slightly tarry finish. Give it two or three years in bottle.

Full and linear with a beautiful line of firm and silky tannins and crushed-stone, blackberry and blueberry undertones. Very pretty second wine. Racy.
