Solid, with a very juicy core of lightly mulled plum and blackberry fruit, a polished apple wood note that runs along the edges and a solid, gravel-tinged finish. Sports nice terroir and leaves a mouthwatering feel on the finish. Best from 2015 through 2027. –JM

I found some bottle variation when tasting this wine, but at its best, this is a delicious blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc. Coming from a 75-acre vineyard further inland than the riverside Ducru Beaucaillou (same owners), this wine offers up plenty of fruit, soft tannins, and decent acidity. It is potentially a sleeper of the vintage if it shows as well as the best bottles did. Drink it over the next decade.

Currants and dark fruits with hints of licorice. Full and silky with ripe tannins and berry. Cigar tobacco and berry. Sweet tobacco. This is a wine that shows serious depth of fruit and refined tannins. Better in 2016.

Matured in 30% new oak and bottled in June 2012, the Lalande-Borie needs time in the glass before wakening – earthy and dusty at first, but gaining clarity with each swirl. There are subtle notes of blackberry, bilberry and graphite that are very well defined, the oak enmeshed into the fruit profile. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy, generous opening. Cedar-infused brambly red berry fruit occupy the driving seat and there is crisp acidity from start to finish, with just a slight attenuation that should fill out as the wine recovers from bottling. Good potential here, but it deserves an hour decanting. Tasted November 2012.

2010: Another sleeper of the vintage from Bruno Borie, this 2010 is atypically powerful, rich and concentrated, with loads of sweet black currants, mocha and a hint of caramel. Deep, lush, succulent, and fruit-driven, it is a wine to drink in its first 10-12 years of life. Drink 2011-2023

The deep purple 2010 Lalande-Borie offers up notes of ripe blackberries, plums, blackberries and cedar, followed by a wonderful array of generous spicy fruit flavours underpinned by ripe tannins This wine benefited from very severe selection, resulting in only 14,000 cases against the average 16,000. The wine received 35% new oak, and was a blend of 50% Cabernet and 40% Merlot.

Blackberries and dark licorice aromas with a full body with velvety tannins and a chocolate, berry and currant character. Intense. So much here.

Lalande Borie – Produced from a vineyard purchased from Lagrange in the 70’s, this soft, pleasant, easy to like and appreciate, blackberry and black cherry filled wine should offer pleasure on release. 89-90 Pts

50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 40% Merlot. 40-year-old vines. In the west of St-Julien, between Lagrange and Talbot bought by Jean Eugene Borie in 1970 as land not vineyard. Dark sand with some iron. Very sweet and round and rich. A bit taut on the end. Very firm and sinewy. Dry finish. Very firm indeed. Drink 2018-2028
