A decidedly exuberant wine, the 2014 Fombrauge hits the palate with tons of depth and richness. Here the flavors are dark, bold and incisive. Blackberry jam, cloves, graphite, new leather, lavender, menthol and cedar wrap around the succulent, racy finish. All the elements are very much in balance. Readers who enjoy ripe, voluptuous wines will find much to admire. The 2014 will need time to fully absorb the new oak, but it appears to have the depth to be able to do that. Tasted two times.

A licorice and black cherry-filled wine with a round, forward character and a slightly oaky finish. 88-90 Pts

The Château Fombrauge 2014, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc picked between 2 and 20 October, has a rich and rather alcoholic bouquet that feels smudged compared to its peers. The palate is sweet and chewy on the entry, powerful and burly with immense weight on the middle and finish. It is redeemed by a decent line of acidity that prevents any cloyingness on the finish, but I would like to see more character and personality in this Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé. Tasted three times with consistent notes.

Rich, ripe and modern. Plush fruit. Polished tannins and texture. Firm, dry, tight-knit finish. Drink: 2020-2030 (87)

Dark crimson. Rich palate entry with some roundness. This tastes a little more of winemaking than terroir but the winemaking is good! Great texture and energy.

This is dense and soulful with hot stone and berry character. Full body. Chewy. Better than 2012.

Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Holundriges Bouquet, kalter Früchtetee, zeigt Tiefe an. Im Gaumen mit viel Substanz, wieder schwarze Beeren, etwas avantgardistisch vinifiziert, aber das Ding scheint so in ein paar Jahren zuklappen. 17/20 2023 – 2037

91–93. Barrel Sample. While there are some initial bitter chocolate extraction flavors, the main thrust of this wine shows rich plums and opulent fruitiness. It is a concentrated wine with a streak of acidity that gives it a delicious final lift.

Features a frankly toasty frame, with a warm cocoa note melding with the plum and black cherry fruit, turning soft and generous through the finish. A touch shy on
tension, but has appeal.
