The 2016 Chateau Fayat has a clean and well-defined bouquet with black cherries and blackcurrant fruit, the oak nicely integrated and showing more sophistication than some of the wines from the noughties from this estate. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly angular entry, a crisp line of acidity and fine salinity towards the finish. It might miss some of the length of its peers, but there is plenty of freshness and vigor on this Pomerol.

Licorice, smoke and cherry liqueur scents on the nose bring you to a medium bodied, red berry, olive-oriented wine. With a quick touch of herbs to complicate matters. The wine was made from a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and reached 14% alcohol.

The 2016 Fayat is deep, powerful and earthy. There is good depth to the jammy red fruit, but wilder, gamy notes detract from the wine's balance. I don't see a lot of charm today.

Fayat combines the freshness of the vintage with beautifully deep, vibrant red fruits. Lovely persistency and elegance, showing restraint despite the 50% new oak. Merlot vines over 100 years old planted on gravel make up 10% of the blend, which overall is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. 3.7pH. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040
