Castle of Chantegrive red - Graves 2014

Beautiful ruby ??color, seductive and complex bouquet with notes of small red fruits. The attack is frank and ample, the wood is noble, supported by silky tannins.

The 2014 Chantegrive displays lovely purity and fine overall balance. Plums, red cherries, flowers and sweet spices add nuance in a soft, feminine wine that will drink well early. The mid-weight finish turns just a bit compact, otherwise this is a solid showing. Tasted twice.

With a push towards more ripeness and concentration, this wine has depth of flavor but is overwrought with the taste of oak and extraction. 84-86 Pts

The Château de Chantegrive (Rouge) 2014 has a forward nose with baked red cherries and light kirsch-like scents that are nicely defined. You could imagine this being very punter-friendly. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin. There is good depth here, sappy in the mouth with a brisk finish that might lack length, but I feel with expand during its élevage. Fine.

Dark purplish crimson. Very light nose. Substantial and meaty. Still youthful but good energy though it’s pretty inky on the end. And the fruit disappears towards the finish.

Vibrant flavors this year with the same earthy backbone found in Chantegrive every year. Balanced, upfront with more freshness and vibrant plum and cherry flavors than in previous few years. Enjoy in about 3 to 5 years. Half Merlot and half Cabernet Sauvignon.

Here a few hints of underripeness in terms of length and overall weight, the fruit is a little austere, although there is some clever use of oak that reists being overdone. This has the benefit of a gourmet feel in the mid palate and will be an enjoyable early drinker. Drink: 2019-2029 (85+)

A red with a very pretty core of fruit and firm tannins. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish.

90–92. Barrel Sample. This wine has intense acidity, given some richness by a tannic core as well as ripe black plum flavors. It's aromatic and fruity, although the acid is almost shocking at the end.

Groseilles rouges, acacias, pouire, tanins assez soyeux, finale peu ferme

Fumé, le nez n'est pas encore totalement en place et laisse paraître quelques notes de cassis. Une bouche droite, tendue, aux arômes de groseilles et à la finale aérienne. Un vin sur la tension et le fruit avec des tanins sructurants.
