A successful wine for the vintage, the 1999 Pape-Clement boasts a deep ruby/purple color, as well as a textbook bouquet of smoke, lead pencil, dried earth, herbs, and sweet black and red fruits. Medium-bodied, with a beautiful texture, excellent purity, low acidity, moderate tannin, and a long, dense, concentrated finish, it has no sense of heaviness. This 1999 will be delicious young, yet will last 15-18 years.
