The 2014 Rauzan-Segla has a fragrant nose with red berry fruit, cedar, mint and a dab of dark chocolate. Fairly backward at first, it opens nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins. It is a bit rustic in style, but there is satisfying depth and fruit concentration. Blackberry mixes with white pepper and bay leaf toward the finish. For the château in question, it comes across a bit assertive in style, but it pulls it off. It is not bad, though it's surpassed by almost every subsequent vintage. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting.

An excellent 2014, a little austere right now, showcasing that understated Cabernet Sauvignon character of a young classified Left Bank. Plenty of depth to the cassis and blueberry fruits, with sleek cocoa bean and liquorice, stretching out through the palate. 60% new oak, 37hl/h yield, harvest September 22 to October 16. Last year with John Kolasa as director.

The deep garnet colored 2014 Rauzan-Ségla reveals an open-knit, expressive nose of potpourri, unsmoked cigars, spice box and red loam with a core of plum preserves, blackcurrant jelly and bay leaves plus a touch of garrigue. Medium to full-bodied with compelling earthy layers and a real savoriness in the mouth, it has firm, chunky tannins and bold freshness, finishing on a lingering mineral note. The blend this year is 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, harvested between September 22nd and October 16th, at an average yield of 37 hectoliters per hectare. It was aged for 18 months in French oak, 60% new. The alcohol is 13.5%, and the pH is 3.59.
Drink date 2019-2039.

The 2014 Rauzan-Ségla is another classic Margaux that shines for its elegance and complexity, the hallmarks of this beautiful estate. Ample black and blue fruits, cedarwood, and spice notes all emerge from the glass, followed by medium to full body, a beautiful texture, polished, sweet tannins, and a great finish. It’s unquestionably enjoyable today, but it will benefit from a handful of years in the cellar and keep for 20-25 years. Maturity 2021-2046.

The 2014 Rauzan-Ségla has quite a lush, precocious bouquet with blackberry, raspberry, hints of juniper berry and brown spices, gaining intensity with continued aeration in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannin, crisp and focused, precise with a detailed, mineral-driven finish that is a real treat. This is a fine Rauzan-Ségla even if it might ultimately end up as a footnote to the exemplary 2015 and 2016. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The 2014 Rauzan-Segla has a very pure, mineral-driven bouquet that could almost be from the Côte de Nuits! This is as refined as you will discover in Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, caressing and smooth in texture with well-judged acidity and fanning out with crushed strawberry, Morello and a touch of orange rind on the finish. It is not patch on the 2015 for sure, but it is a worthy forerunner.

Fantastic aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and strawberries follow through to a full body, super-integrated tannins and an extremely long finish. The bright acidity gives the wine a linear edge that focuses in all the fruit. Minerally. Drink in 2021.

This has a lightly firm singed alder frame, which works well with the core of dark currant and plum fruit, melding easily with a velvety back end that lets alluring black tea and anise notes emerge steadily. A bit flashy in style, but will certainly have fans. Best from 2019 through 2029. 9,167 cases made.

The 2014 Rauzan-Ségla is just as impeccable from bottle as it was from barrel. Silky, perfumed and nuanced in the glass, the wine exudes finesse. Expressive floral notes, spice and succulent red/purplish stone fruits are all beautifully delineated. In 2014, Rauzan-Ségla is a wine of understated class with the potential to improve for several decades. Tasted two times. 94+

This is a full-bodied wine, from one of the leading estates in Margaux. It is ripe with juicy blackberry and black-currant fruits. This fruit contrasts with the dark tannins and powerful structure. It is going to develop slowly and impressively to be ready to drink from 2025.

Bien fruité, des notes de fruits blancs, poire, tout en finesse, la signature maison mais avec un milieu de bouche garni, plein, du moelleux, bonne longueur.

The 2014 Rauzan-Ségla is shaping up to be a real jewel of a wine. Super-polished and silky throughout, the 2014 is all about nuance. Red cherry, red currant and mint open up in a translucent, beautifully delineated wine. Ferrous and savory notes follow as the wine blossoms in the glass, revealing its depth and resonance. All the elements fall into place in a gracious wine that is at once classically austere, yet also supple and highly expressive, with virtually no sensation of tannin and terrific overall balance. Tasted twice.

With the opening essence suggesting florals, fennel, cocoa, cassis and blackberry upon the nose, this wine is medium/full-bodied with delectably dark fruits, silky tannins and brightness in the finish. From a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 13.5% alcohol. The Grand Vin represents only 40% of the harvest. 93-94 Pts

The Château Rauzan-Ségla 2014 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc picked between 22 September until 16 October. It has a precise bouquet, nothing incredibly powerful with a touch of cold stone coming through with aeration. This is conservative even for this Margaux estate that usually keeps everything “controlled” out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with chalky tannin, crisp acidity, tensile and linear with sappy black fruit towards the finish. I was just seeking more substance to come through on the finish – it just does not quite deliver that knock out blow.

Dark crimson. Lifted and racy on the nose. Aérien, as they say. Quite ethereal. Far from heavy but sappy and appetising and well balanced. Really quite subtle. Attractively dry, but not drying, finish. Archetypal claret that lingers on the palate. The acid is only just not dominant, mind you.  Drink 2023-2036

Lifted, attractive aromatics with very focused flavors. This year, there is greater precision and more depth of flavors on the mid-palate with fairly long finish. Excellent vintage for Rauzan-Segla. Long finish with layers of flavors that linger on the palate.

Very fine expression from start to finish: Cabernet black fruits with restrained ripeness, slightly smoky spice from the oak, and supple yet firm texture on the palate. Still a long way to go to show its really classy vineyard fruit, but a great future. Drink: 2019-2035 (93)

A powerful and dense Rauzan with firm and chewy tannins that are polished and direct. Full body, yet the acid and tannin tension gives the wine impressive length. Will develop wonderfully.

18/20 2022 – 2052

93–95. Barrel Sample. With good balance between the fruit and acidity, this is a stylishly structured wine. The tannic core grounds the fruitiness and gives both texture and aging potential to this ripe, fresh wine.  — R.V.  (3/31/2015)

Soft-edged, with plum and black cherry fruit, laced with light sandalwood and tea notes that linger through the supple finish, which gains some extra velvety layers of blackberry and anise with air.
