Presque un nez de barsac, tirant sur le citron épicé. Bouche de très belle liqueur, onctuosité et concentration, on retrouve les origines sauternaises. Il faudra trouver de l’allant et de la vibration à l’élevage mais la matière première impressionne.

Honey, banana, vanilla, apricots and – did I sense a Hawaiian fruit plate? A tropical bakery? Sweet ingenuity is all over the place here. The wine is voluminous with a clean lift in the energetic, apricot confection of a finish.

The 2017 Clos Haut-Peyraguey was cropped at 16.5hl/ha between 26 September and 13 October. It has an energetic bouquet that leaps from the glass; dried honey and quince, just a touch of French patisserie. The palate is viscous on the opening, fresh, well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, notes of orange zest, honey and a touch of spice towards the nicely proportioned finish. This should turn into a quite delicious Sauternes.

The 2017 Clos Haut-Peyraguey has loads of ginger, allspice and beeswax notes over guava, mango, orange blossoms and apricots. The palate is rich and spicy, possessing great poise and loads of layers, with a spicy finish.

Located in Bommes, this estate has produced a luxurious wine with apricot and nectarine sweetness, lovely strands of saffron, and an opulent texture. It does lack a little definition and needs a healthy shot of acidity.

Youthfully raw, with lots of spice and hazelnut notes out front, followed by a jumble of tangerine, orange and singed almond flavors. The unctuous finish pulls everything together, so this just needs the élevage to tame it. A big wine.—J.M.
