Possibly the finest Trottevielle I have ever tasted, proprietor Philippe Casteja continues to ratchet up this estate’s quality. The dense blue/purple-hued 2005 offers a flamboyant bouquet of black fruits, licorice, chocolate, incense, espresso, and pain grille. Full-bodied with beautiful richness, good acidity, sweet but substantial tannin, and a textured mouthfeel, it shows exceptionally well at present, but it will benefit from 5-6 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2028.
