Ruggedly constructed, with a deep ruby/purple color, this big, rich St.-Julien offers notes of animal fur, black currants, spice box, licorice, and a notion of new oak in the background. Chewy, heady, and muscular, it is a well-made, substantial 2001 to consume between 2007-2015. If more finesse develops, it may merit an outstanding rating.

A good dose of new wood in this young wine with violet, berry and cherry character. Medium-bodied, with slightly firm tannins and a medium finish. Best after 2007. 5,830 cases made.

A strong effort from Saint-Pierre, this excellent 2001 exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, and sweet aromas of black currants and damp foresty notes. Medium-bodied, with great fruit on the attack, and a dry, moderately tannic finish displaying impressive purity, it will be at its finest between 2007-2017.

The wine is medium-bodied, with great fruit on the attack, and a dry, moderately tannic finish displaying impressive purity. It is a strong effort from Saint-Pierre. It will be at its finest between 2007-2017.
