This is a more extracted style of top Bordeaux, but there is plenty of ripe fruit and cool tannins underneath. Chewy and polished texture. Give it two or three years to open.

Enticing, with loganberry, raspberry and blackberry fruit rushing forth, pushed by a graphite edge and underscored by a mouthwatering anise note on the finish. Shows a lovely tobacco echo at the very end. Best from 2018 through 2028. 5,583 cases made.

The 2014 La Dominique is a big, powerful wine that needs time for the tannins to soften. Blue and purplish-hued stone fruits, licorice, menthol, spice and a good bit of French oak shape a powerful, deeply expressive Saint-Émilion that hits all the right notes. The 2014 has certainly developed nicely since I tasted it from barrel. There is plenty to like. The blend is 85 % Merlot and 15 % Cabernet Franc. Tasted three times.

Fruits rouges, salade de fruits, boisé blond, bouche élégante, tendue, fraîche, crémeuse, une certaine sucrosité gourmande.

The 2014 Dominique is certainly not lacking in either intensity or personality. Super-ripe plums, blueberries, cloves, black cherries, new oak, menthol and smoke add complexity in a bold, explosive St.-Emilion built on fruit and suppleness. It will be interesting to see if the 2014 develops a bit more nuance during its aging. The blend is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc. Tasted two times.

Floral, black raspberry and coffee bean notes on the nose, open to a lavish, forward wine that ends with black cherries, licorice and chocolate in the finish. From a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 13.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.7 and will be aging in 60% new, French oak barrels for approximately 16 months. 90-92 Pts

The Château La Dominique 2014 is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc matured in 60% new oak. It has a little more composure on the nose compared to recent vintages: black cherries, iodine and floral notes developing, though I would still prefer to see more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite plush in the mouth with soft blackberry tinged with allspice and graphite on the finish. This is a structured La Dominique that just needs to muster a little more precision on the hard finish. Not bad, but this estate should aim for the very top of the pile given the brilliance of the wines produced back in the 1980s and early 1990s.

Vibrant cassis and blackberry on the nose with an equally juicy palate of fresh red and black berries. Lifted flavors that are balanced and subtle with firm, ripe tannins. Enjoy in 4 to 6 years.

Fragrant dark fruit aromas with integrated oak. Some spice. Juicy, ripe fruit. Tannins finely textured. More elegance this year. Clean, long finish. Drink: 2022-2034 (90+)

Very dark blackish crimson. Raw fruit on the nose. But this stands out. Masses of acidity and some relatively light tannins but great fruit concentration. Very distinctive. Very ambitious but a bit like hard work at the moment. Drink 2024-2034 (16+)

This is a rich and slightly extracted wine with lots of fruits and spices. Full-bodied and chewy. Wait and see.

17/20 2024 – 2040

92–94. Barrel Sample. This is a fruity wine, with notes of concentrated dark-plum skins and bright acidity. The darkly tannic structure is already integrating well. The finish is fresh fruit all the way.   — R.V.  (4/2/2015)

Friendly raspberry, cherry and spice notes mingle here, with bright acidity and a light brambly edge holding the finish.
